What the fuck is Crossfit?

So I'm getting into real exercising and fitness, and Veeky Forums has been a big help, but I'm still confused about one thing. What the fuck is Crossfit, and why do you all hate it?

It's weightlifting if it was invented by niggers

Can I get an actual answer?

Can you do a simple Google search?

what they used to call crosstraining in the 90s, repackaged and resold for the fitness-on-my-instagram generation.

Basically run a little, lift a little, do some situps/pullups/core/ and some plyometrics and there ya go....CROSSFIT.

I personally don't like it because it commoditizes something that was originally free (flipping tires, running a footrope course, doing sprints, etc) and threw in a bunch of TOTALLY necessary equipment.

Also people who are lifting for real sometimes get annoyed at the crossfit people taking up their racks doing stupid shit when they could just as easily be doing 4 sets on squat like a normal human.

ya pretty much crosstraining, lets so youre gonna go out and run in the woods, add some dumbelss to the routine and do reps as you would shoulder, bi's and tris day then bam you got what was called crosstraining to cross fit!

...

you forgot to say they're supposed to do it as fast as possible, compromising form and increasing risk of injuries, they're fucktards

Wanna fuck up your joints?
Do Cross fit.

Personally, I do BJJ and Yoga for the opposite reasons. They keep you in shape and will improve your life span thanks to joint flexibility and stretching.

...

>you forgot to say they're supposed to do it as fast as possible

also something cool stolen from a forgotten fad: Circuit training.

Anyone else remember setting up a fucking hard ass circuit of lifts and plowing through the machines and being fucking dead 45 minutes later?

Do people still do that?

...

It really bothers me that this gif has twice the amount of frames it should and still fails to properly loop.

yup, do each excercise for 1 to 2 mins then move on, was done in a group comprised of the workouts set in a circle!

...

Its basically cardio + weights so if your not a sift pussytwat you'd do it

circuit training was great especially back before crossfit when people did it on the machines.

eh??? no the guys saying its a joint destroyer they arent lying, so if anything you need to start off right with the right muscles in shape in order to do this! other than that its a danger much like cross training is, where you take 1/3 of your total then go run in the fucking woods for an hr and pull off max reps per exercise!

don't you put that crazy shit on black people. Black people don't even do cross fit because its retarded.

wut

Crossfit is Strongmen, only without the Strong par.

It's circuits with low-to-moderate weights, that train endurance by utilising strength you already have.

Crossfit athletes train just like strongmen, only they're more like 500/300/500, with a ~sub 2pl8 OHP strong, rather than 900/600/900, with a 4pl8 ohp.

Ofcourse, there's people who think that you get good at crossfit by only doing crossfit.

There are the same people who'd only do 1RMs in training for powerlifting and wonder why everybody else squats 500, while they can't break 300.

It's circuit training as made over by a branding agency.

The one AND ONLY good thing to come out of it is that it's prompted a huge surge in interest in lifting in general and the olympic lifts in particular, which were both dying out in normieland in the US and the UK before it. That means you'll be a thousand times more likely to walk into a random gym and find it has decent equipment. Unfortunately you'll have to pay 3x the market rate to use it unless you can come to some arrangement with the gym owners - and you'll have to work out at ass o'clock because they run one of their dumbshit classes every moment during business hours.

throw gymnastic in it it also strenghtens your joints

its a crosstraining circuit with olympic lifts and fancy memes added in so that they can charge upper-middle-class millennial girls and all their DYEL orbiters $200 a month

200$/month for a bodyweigh trainning O_o
are you serious ?

Google you dense motherfucker

...

>crossfit

DONT BE A SUPERMONG, READ THE STICKY AND POO IN THE LOOOOOOOOOOOO !

Crossfit is perfect to break everything

Not even CrossFit is that stupid.

THATS RASICT, YOUR RASICT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

please tell me this is fake
those spergs digging holes in the sand, why ?

I went to a gym which "offered" "crossfit". After almost a month of doing squats, dumbell rows amd machines by myself , this gym instructor guy wanted me to try " crossfit", maybe to get me enrolled for that sweet fat commission. Guy had me do jumping squats that fucked up my legs and knees. Couldn't walk right for a week, waiting for the soreness to subside.

Never returned to that gym after that.

It's crossfit. It's too deep for us.
And it's not fake.

Crossfit is legit as fuck but ONLY if you have a decent to good fitness base. It's basically military pt and offers you endurace and strength. But you absolutely need a good basis to be able to push yourself properly, not injure yourself and also make gains.

So my advice is until you can do 60 pushups, 10 pullups, bench bodyweight/squat double bodyweight/deadlift bodyweight, run 1.5 miles in under 11 mins you shouldn't bother with crossfit.

Veeky Forums of course is so unfit they can't even do the afformentioned, hence why they diss crossfit so much. They are completely untrained and anything that is more intense than a squat set with 15 mins rest in between is too hard for their fat bodies.

It's exercise, not real training. Definitely piss poor for beginners. OK if you've reached where you want to be in terms of strength and physique and just want to do shit.

Oly Lifting + Circuit training. A whole heap of fuckwit gyms around the world make it look bad because of snap city form. But 99% of the people who post on Veeky Forums couldn't finish a Crossfit WOD if they had a gun to their head.

This is inaccurate as fuck. Any good box will scale the workout to your level, if you're able to do a workout RX then good for you, but very few people will have such strong lifts.

How is crossfit legit when they expect you to do oly lifts once a fortnight or more.

What the fuck is that supposed to mean.

>bench bodyweight/squat double bodyweight/deadlift bodyweight

It's shit like this that lets us know you don't understand dick about weight training.

If you can bench your bodyweight and squat double that you have a decent fitness base .

Also claiming that i don't know shit without pointing out what's wrong means you are a retard

>squat double bodyweight
>deadlift bodyweight
>squat being double deadlift

You said DEADLIFTING BODYWEIGHT represented a good fitness base. Do you have any idea how fucking stupid that makes you look? You're just parroting words that someone at your shitty ass 'box' said to you to make you keep paying the subscription fee.

for exemple :after my cut (ex lardass) i was badly out of shape like auswicth mode, still i was able to bench my bw (53kg), oph 75%of my bw and dl 125% of my bw so nope it's not a decent fitness base .....

>POO IN THE LOOOOOOOOOOOO !
>>/g/

. . . And yet only white people do it.

youtube.com/watch?v=bOYjaRGc7kE
Well see for yourself ;^)

How in the fuck do you squat double BW but deadlift only BW? Do you look like some fucking ostrich?

Pretty much every reliable trainer will say that 0.6xbw The Press™, 0.75-1xbw binch, 1.5xsquat, 2xdiddly for is a decent strength standard for a complete novice to work towards.

(This is why 1/2/3/4 gets thrown around so much - for the average guy, this represents those BW multiples.)

2x bodyweight squat is going to be 180kg for the average male. The number of people you see in the gym moving that kind of weight can be counted on the fingers of no hands.

You got bench JUST about right. Well done you. However, 1/3 lets us know that the numbers you're quoting are absolutely fucking arbitrary.

It means doing high rep snatch or cleans once every two weeks or more is a recipe for disaster and the injury rates of crossfit confirm this.

search "exercice in futility crossfit" on youtube you will find all the answer you need....

Yep.

The way crossfit uses olympic lifts (or even normal lifts) not only doesn't make you stronger, it doesn't even make you better at doing crossfit routines.

>CrossFit is a branded fitness regimen created by Greg Glassman[1] and is a registered trademark of CrossFit, Inc.[2] which was founded by Greg Glassman and Lauren Jenai[3] in 2000.[4][5] Promoted as both a physical exercise philosophy and also as a competitive fitness sport, CrossFit workouts incorporate elements from high-intensity interval training, Olympic weightlifting, plyometrics, powerlifting, gymnastics, girevoy sport, calisthenics, strongman, and other exercises. It is practiced by members of over 13,000[6] affiliated gyms,[7] roughly half of which are located in the United States,[8] and by individuals who complete daily workouts (otherwise known as "WODs" or "workouts of the day").[9][10]

It gets a lot of hate as in bodybuilding it's all about mass, while in crossfit they have a wider range of aims such as endurance. Naturally there's those who don't understand the exercises, and those who only see the bad things such as the accidents.

>2x bodyweight squat is going to be 180kg for the average male

Was pretty much thinking.. I'm 100kg.. and fuck calling a 200kg squat "a decent base".

I aim to get there one day, but that'll be an awesome goal.

pretty much this and Veeky Forums is notorious for just babbling "general internet consensus" bro science bullshit about lot of things especially crossfit.

It has nothing to do with 'bodybuilding.'

CrossFit's injury rates are SKY HIGH compared to any other sport, typically because they borrow difficult movements from highly demanding and technical sports like strongman, weightlifting, and gymnastics, and get complete beginners to do them for time without appropriate supervision or training.

please tell me your joking ....
crosshit is so wide that it's bad at all ,and good at nothing
at least bodybuilding is good at building a good looking body.....

Source on that claim or just spouting things you heard? crossfit has hardly an higher injury rate then other comparable sports sports

stack.com/a/crossfits-injury-rates first link the survey is referenced in the article in case you start bitching

>and get complete beginners to do them for time without appropriate supervision or training.

This is entirely dependent on where you train. Also you can't untrain someone's ego, if they're going to be an idiot and lift past their means, that's their own fault.

>europepmc.org/abstract/med/24276294
does this source compare data from Olympic weight-lifting COMPETITION and crosshit TRAINNING O_o

>dad stars crossfit because he wants to get in shape and his office buddies do it
>joints destroyed after a year or so, has to quit because of shoulder pain
Crossfit is an evil meme

>at least bodybuilding is good at building a good looking body.....

Not according to every CBT I see on Veeky Forums. Oh but you're going to m-make it, right? Is that what you tell yourself every time it's leg day again and you're staring down at the same looking quads and the same amount of weight?

>Old person does high intensity workout programmed for people in the 20's and 30's

nope it's just bad trainner not a idiot beginner
it the guy want to push is limit you put him on a safe exercice ... you don't put him doing a clean and jerk on a medecine ball

your point?
>This amounts to an injury rate of 3.1 per 1,000 hours, which is similar to sports such as Olympic weightlifting, power lifting and gymnastics, but less than contact sports like rugby. What may come as a surprise: it matches the injury rate for general fitness workouts.

>This research confirms what we expected CrossFit is not the worst thing in the world, as some people want you to believe. But it's not the safest thing either. If you're simply looking to get stronger, burn fat or enhance your performance, trying to mimic elite CrossFit athletes may not be wise

Where did you read anything about competition?

> Guy pays loadsa cash to have trainer and someone to help him get strong
>instead even with supervision he gets injured due to intensity
So tell me, what is the point of the crossfit pts again? Just to take someone's cash?

Hope that didn't put him off lifting try to take him with you.

You can also say that about decathlon and pentathlon maybe some people do not want to specialise....

>you don't put him doing a clean and jerk on a medecine ball

This is hyperbole? Or do you really think every Crossfit gym has people doing squats on skateboards and pregnant women doing pull-ups?

What is the point of any gym?

All you need tbqh t-nation.com/training/crossfit-the-good-bad-and-the-ugly

nice non sequitur:Not according to every CBT I see on Veeky Forums
nice ad hominem:Oh but you're going to m-make it, right? Is that what you tell yourself every time it's leg day again and you're staring down at the same looking quads and the same amount of weight?
> i'am jelly of your rhetoric gain

Damn, I hit a nerve?

Fuck is this ? Crosshit allows this to happen in their gyms by people that have gotten their certificate thus represent them.

yeah i know crosshit is more famous for the aborpee (a prego woman doing burpee)
but trolling aside trainner are responsible for the stupid shit leading to injury
it's thier jobs to prevent injury

Yeah I am, he's actually not that bad for being out of action, he was doing 3x5 lmao1plaet

*bench

nope i was just pointing out that the only gain you make at crosshit is logic fallacy^^

...

It's weightlifting for nu-males and hyper-self-involved women.

>CrossFit(TM)

It's weightlifting if it was invented by jews

>basically military pt
it's not, military pt is focused on making you ready for a 40 mile forced march, a quick sprint and wading through neck deep swamps with your kit over your head. Training for a triathlon=military pt.

Crossfit is meme stuff that's designed to get you injured, bad form and dangerous exercises are the name of the game.

Im fucking dying

People tend to hate on it cause they don't know what it is. I challenge anyone to just describe what a normal training day for a Crossfitter who takes his shit seriously looks like.

Most of these guys just get their references from gym fails videos but if we were to do the same thing then bodybuilders cheat curling on those videos are shit as well, along with powerlifters pulling with a flexed lumbar spine (yeah, they're faggots too) and those elite weightlifters who get hit in the head when they miss a heavy snatch (lol thy should kill themselves as well)

Crossfit is constantly improving, gaining more popularity and more members, and it has generated more money than bodybuilding has done in the last decades, wheter you like it or not :)

They look like a fucking crankshaft in an engine spinning around.

A lot of Crossfit gyms are about speed and making your numbers go up without bothering to teach proper form. I've heard of so many people fucking up their joints and muscles from Crossfit, trying to do some move with a lot of weight really quickly. It's like a cult of retardation. I'm sure there are good crossfit gyms but most have bad reputation for a reason. It will destroy your body.

i'd like a source on the last claim you made

I've never seen a Crossfit person compete in a physique or bodybuilding competition.

Wonder why that is :^)

Posted this in another thread, I'll rephrase it here:

Who do you respect more, the jack of all trades or the master of one? Crossfitters do not set records (weight or cardio) in terms of 1RM, Mile time, anything like that. Most crossfit trainers have no credentials and say what the fuck ever to get money out of poor people who just want to get in shape. Add to that the high rate/risk of injury, the fact that every single Crossfitter that competes is on the juice (while claiming natty), and the general elitist attitude every crossfitter seems to have, you have the reason why everyone who doesn't do crossshit hates on crossshit. It promotes elitist mediocrity, and 99% of them are douchefaggots who'd get fucked on the street by most beerbelly fags in a fight

Look up how many boxes they had in 2000 (one in Santa Cruz, which is Greg Glassman's)
Look up how many they have currently (~14 000 across the world)

Also check Glassman's net worth, then compare it to the Bodybuilding Godfather (Joe Weider)

Because the goal isn't to achieve an amazing physique, unless a person wants to, then they add other specific movements/types of training to their routines. I've never stated the opposite.

Then what is the goal of Crossfit, Medical debt?

There's a crossfit gym in my city and guess who rents out the building next door? A chiropractor. He must make BANK

How many non-crossfit gyms are there in the world? How many participants are in crossfit events vs bodybuilding/strongman? What's the difference in prize money + how much is available between bodybuilding/strongman vs crossfit etc etc. You've posted 0 facts and only opinion. Crossfaggot detected. Bet you don't even compete and just dickpolish someone who does

Answered it on the other thread
>Crossfit trainers have no credentials

Agreed, most don't so we have to pick boxes carefully

> high rate of injury

Disproved by studies, the rate is 20%/3.1 per 1000 hrs which is comparable to PL, WL or Gymnastics, and it goes as low as 17% when monitored by an actual coach. Also showed that beginners have lower risks if they go through the 3 month basics/foundation learning phase

>crossfitters set no records

They max out on olympic lifts and PL lifts every end of mesocycle, thy follow lifting cycles just like everyone else
Also there have been many events testing max strength, like the C&J Ladder, Snatch Ladder, DL Ladder, OHS max Event
There's also sprint eventslike the zigzag sprint event

>elitist attitude
That I agree as well, but it also has something to do with the people talking shit as well, hard not to talk back

And no, I'm not someone who's been brainwashed, I'm just a guy who started up with general strength training, then went on to WL which I didn't enjoy, and kept on looking for something I like and I could do well at until I found CF.

Different strokes for different folks.

CrossFit Inc. describes its strength and conditioning program as "constantly varied functional movements executed at high intensity across broad time and modal domains," with the stated goal of improving fitness, which it defines as "work capacity across broad time and modal domains."

Also, like I said, the injury rate is equal to PL, WL and Gymnastics, so there's no point in trying hard with the "crossfit will injure you!!!!" Anything will injure you if you do it wrong.

WHY IS THIS SO FUCKING FUNNY
