I prefer also something for obliques such as woodchoppers.
Ab wheel is the greatest isolation for abdominal erectors though, no doubt. Invaluable for the more advanced trainee for preventing postural issues

l'm almost positive l'm using this thing wrong, l get a twing in my lower back every time. The only way to stop it is to limit the rom to a point where l don't feel anything working

sounds like youre letting your hips sag, you may need to work on core strength more before using it
Side planks are alright for beginners, haven't tried those bridges before. I do prefer something with actual motion eventually.
Used to do farmer carries, which really is the single best oblique exercise but my current gym does not have the equipment necessary.
