I think, in America at least, there's a separation forming between the classic "hard working blue collar democrat" of the past and the new "SJW safespace" democrat of the younger generation. Both have different sets of values and politics and I think that distinction should be made.

Seems like the older generation of Democrats still have backbone. Democrats that are 30s to teens lack this hard-working character. Even if they don't have great jobs, totally understandable considering the American economy, they lack a certain ethic and strength of character that their parents and grandparents had.

There's a ton of reasons, but here's what I have.

1. A society cannot progress if it clings to outdated traditions.
2. A society cannot progress if it has a closed mindset.
3. The poor are still citizens of a country, and because of their status often miss out on opportunities that the wealthy have.
4. The wealthy, can and do take advantage of the poor(er).

I also have a few other more moderate (and right leaning) view points, but those are less important to me.

Probably because coal is complete shit and trying to replace it with clean energy is a smart thing to do in multiple ways. Some people might lose jobs but that happens when any sort of industrial revolution happens. We don't have plenty of jobs that existed 100 years ago, they get replaced with new things.

If you're poor and uneducated you have no skills to offer to a competetive job market, so of course you're not going to rise in rank. There are plenty of public school, academic grant/scholarship, and affirmative action programs already in place that are not being taken advantage of by the majority of underprivileged youth.

A family in the ghetto should focus on keeping their children alive long enough to graduate with their GEDs first. There is no point in complaining about college acceptance when most of the demographic you're referring to is not qualified to apply in the first place.

recent grad here.
scholarships are getting harder and harder to get and are paying for less and less.
athletic scholarships are few and far between, and if you get in as an athlete, they basically fuck you over by having you take bullshit classes that will never be useful in life and get a degree that no one will take seriously. This is so that you can focus on athletics and not school.
finally, loans are fucking expensive and it assumes that you'll get a job right after you graduate.
getting a job is hard even with a B.S. nowadays. Everyone has a bachelor's now. A bachelor's is essentially what a high school diploma was 30 years ago. It's considered the bare minimum for entry level work. Plus even having a bachelor's won't guarantee you a job. Companies still want years of experience. I went to an interview for an INTERNSHIP and they wanted prior experience. A fucking internship, not even a full time job.

So yeah, it's not as cut and dry as you think.
I only made it because I happened to be in the right place at the right time and talk to the right people.

The only thing that Trump has moved the party far to the right on is immigration. All of the other major parts of his platform are firmly centrist, and the only thing "radical" about them is the fact that he actually dares to propose reviewing and revising things (like the current regime of international trade deals) that the current moneyed establishment is perfectly content leaving just the way they are.

Free trade is only a benefit to people at the top. Is a tradeoff of having a lower tax rate on the richest people in the US (who use "tax avoidance" to lower their taxes anyway) in order to greatly increase demand for well-paid, semi-skilled labor jobs not worth it? The lower tax offsets the assfucking they'll get from not having free trade, and the unskilled American worker gets an opportunity to have a decent paying job.
