I have never "exercised" in my life. My life revolves around school and vidya. I am starting to get a little fat.

I've read the sticky and I got a gym-membership (full price for a whole year) and I'm gonna start lifting. Today.

What should I think about? Any tips or trix?

Today, my first day I'm gonna hit my back and shoulders with rows and lat-pulls. Shoulders will be lat, raises, front raises and military press. All will be done standing except lat-pulls.

What kind of return do i expect, what time frame? How often should I go there?

Good form> heavier weight.

You wont "lift" as heavy with lower weight, but proper form will make the muscles work more and avoid injuries.

You have good frame-work. No skelly, no real fatty. Seem a little muscular. You probably have good genetics.

I just got back from the gym, I did 105kg / 231lb bent over rows, 4 x8,
Lat-pulldowns: 55kg= 121lb ,,,3x 12

Shoulders: my weakness, back delt raises 6kg/ 13lb, 4x12,
side raises: 7 kg,/15 lbs 3x12
Front raises: 9 kg / 19 lbs 3x12 + failure set (8 rep)

Tried the shoulder-press machine, got like 35kg/77 lbs 2x8 at the end.

I'm sore as hell between my shoulder blades.

Two days from now: Romanian Deadlifts, Core exercises, and some arms

I started going to the gym a year or so ago but moved jobs and havn't been for 6 months. I would say I have decent to good form on most exercises I know and have a routine I follow. I started properly this week - Monday.

I just weighed myself and I am 233 lbs @ 5"7 and have 45% body fat.

Here is my question. What out of the above figures are the ones I should be looking at? My routine focuses on weights and lifting with 10 - 20 minutes of cardio each session. I imagine due to the weight training my lbs weight will remain similar but body fat will fall?

Is it 1pl8, 2pl8 for OHP, Rows, Squat, Diddly?

You will lose fat quicker than you put on muscle.

Look at weight, measure your gut and look in the mirror too. Photograph yourself also.

Be prepared never to take a 6 month break from the gym or exercise ever again in your life except on Dr's orders.

You can lose fat at the same time you build muscles, especially when you get newb-gains. When you are like buff and 35 it is harder

Is fat gonna go away by lifting weights? Or is cardio better? Or is it just dieting, and eating less than the body minimum caloric intake fixes the rest?

Well I am not happy with myself at all and want to get on it, also started to have a diet.

Morning is Oats with milk, gym is around 6:45am -> 7:40am, shake around 8am.

Some oat and yoghurt breakfast bar at around 10am.

Chicken salad or a basic sandwhich or something light with protien at 1/2am.

Get home and have a tin of tuna or scrambled eggs.

I probably don't eat enough calorie wise which i think is the hard thing to get right and also rather deceiving, My biggest thing before was drinking beer which I have cut out completely. Is this a huge issue as I have read and worked out from some guides and articles I should be hitting around 2100 calories a day?

My ass is too weak and I dont wanna risk anything with improper form for normal deadlifts.

Dieting and light cardio is the way to go for losing weight, though lifting doesn't hurt either. Want to have at least some muscle definition.
