Getting wisdom teeth removed tommorow

getting wisdom teeth removed tommorow, any advice? What are your experiences? Will it be painful? When I will be able to lift?

bump for interest

It's not too bad, I'd suggest getting general anesthesia if that is an option, but even with local you won't feel anything. Hurts like hell afterwards if your doctor doesn't give you a script for any good pain killers, but that shouldn't be an issue unless he's incompetent

Crush your pills up and drink them in warm water, they kick in faster that way and you aren't sitting around for an hour feeling like your head got run over by a truck

you'll be comatose. hurts afterwards. you will be completely fucked up on painkillers for a couple days so no lifting

Varies for person to person.
Mine were already showing when I took them out. I was in and out in 15 min, 10 min to numb my jaw, and 5 min to take 4 of them out. I was will a little pain for the first 2 days, just took advil. Wasn't bad for me. Just make sure you clean the hole with water, don't want infection.

I was knocked out for mine, woke up and everything was done. The actual procedure was very smooth, for me atleast. You'll get some painkillers which will be very nice. You'll have to wear gauze for a bit cus you're shit will be really bloody for a few days. I recovered very quickly and bleeding stopped mostly by the end of the day I got them removed.

Got mine taken out when I was 16.

Shit sucks for like 2 weeks, but starts to get better after that.

This was before I had started lifting, but I would say for the first week at the very least you won't be able to lift. Even on the second week you'll probably be pushing it.

After a month you'll be fully healed and totally fine to go about everything the way you did before.

Thanks for the input guys, calmed me down a little...
I'll get local anesthesia and only 2 removed so I will have to go twice to get all 4 removed.
What about lifting weights afterwards?

I got five (yeah, fucking FIVE) wisdom teeth removed in three rounds.
Not that painful. God bless anaesthetics.
It's imperative that you have a blood clot in the socket at all times, and for this reason I wouldn't move too much for four days at least. If you get a dry socket you are fucked.

And of course, if you smoke, stop it. Not a single cigarrette.

Had all 4 removed under local anesthesia. Wasn't bad and I prefer it to the after effects of being put under. First week sucked, was pretty much good to go by the second week

>29 y/o
>tfw wisdom teeth master race

I slept through it, got one side removed and the other side in a second time

Gonna be looking like jigglypuff for a week

Take a week off imo. More if you are hurting. Just do pullups and pushups for the week. DO yoga and walk.

You'll have pretty much an open wound there. You DON'T WANT to exert yourself. That will get blood pumping and that can ruin everything (not just hurt - it'll rip it open again and you're fucked).

Lose the gains for at least a few weeks. It's not worth it. You only do this once per lifetime anyway.

Since no one is saying this: buy a ton of ice cream.

You'll not be really able to chew (and even if you can manage it, it's not advisable to do so), plus the ice cream is very cold, so it tightens things up as they get colder, which will even help everything get over with faster.

dry sockets aren't so bad
they increase your tolerance to pain like a motherfucker
i had a dry socket for like a week before i found out it wasn't supposed to hurt
i also cried like a little bitch, it hurt so bad
When I got mine done they were about as bad as they could possibly be, I was given local anesthesia (not enough) and some IV Valium of some sort, and it really wasn't that bad. The IV Valium just makes you so high you don't really care if it hurts

Take a week off, enjoy being rekt on oxy the whole time and resume lifting afterwards. Also if the doctor gives you enough and you know your tolerance just do research and determine your own dose of pain killers, the directions on the bottle won't be enough

I mostly just slept for the rest of the day after I had it done, and I remember sleeping a lot for the next couple days. I didn't swell up much, but definitely took a lot of Tylenol (the Vicodin made me throw up...) to take the edge off the pain. Definitely try to eat more wet/soft foods, it'll be easier on your mouth.

I got knocked out when mine were taken out. Was not bad. Didn't even need any pain killers the day after and had almost no swelling. Was eating normal food again within a week.

No fucking way. Tons of sugar is exactly what you don't need for wound recovery. In this case protein powders with milk are extremely convenient.

You can die pretty fast if the bone get's infected. Srsly.

at first i thought i was just sore from the surgery
then after 2 days it hurt a lot
i thought it would go away
it hurt even when i was asleep
i went back to the dentist after 3 days of that and he made it all better tho

Haha u guys are pussy me from sweden we dont have pain killer or nothing it did no hurt

You can't do anything physical in three days or so

It was ok. The only slightly painful part is when they pry your mouth open as far as it can, then place a wooden block there to keep it open for any tricky parts. Other then thats, its uncomfortable rather than painful. I drove home straight after and carried on my day. Expect lots of blood on your pillow that night.

I'm a dental student so literally give this advice every day.
To reiterate what other anons said, take the next couple of days off from the gym, why risk it.
Don't smoke/use a straw/mess around with the socket too much and you'll be fine. You don't want to get dry socket because you did something stupid or have to go back to the dentist because it won't stop bleeding.
400mg ibuprofen before starting extractions is usually recommended too so you have an appreciable amount in your system by the time the local wears off, ask the dentist.

Don't smoke or suck on straws for a while

Go back to your refugee center, Ahmed

i got mine out a few days ago. my surgeon was amazing so woke up totally coherent and minimal bleeding and also very very little pain. still hurt to eat tho so lots of yogurt and ice cream. I ate halo top ice cream because high protein low cal (cutting) and tastes great.good luck

IMPORTANT

when you have them out you will feel drowsy afterwards. when you get home you will likely go to sleep for a few hours. MAKE SURE TO TAKE YOUR PAINKILLERS BEFORE YOU GO TO SLEEP

i learnt this the hard way and woke up in the worst pain i've ever experienced

It's the coldness that's good. Dentists usually recommend ice cream themselves.

I've got a canker sore in the back area of my mouth. It hurts.

why do you even remove them? we don't do it in europe

mine are sideways, pushing second molars out of their positions

heres a tip, dont be a bitch. but srsly tell them u arnt numb when u really are numb., u want to make sure ur really numb or ull end up in fucksville, then take the painkillers asap

This.

Have someone wake you for your next dose and be sure to change the gauze or you'll get blood everywhere.

It's nothing. Take general anesthetic, sell the vicodin he prescribes you and don't drink out of a straw or sports bottle.
First couple days suck, take some otc painkillers. After the third day it's just a general annoyance until it heals completely.

Learn to type, you mongoloid fuckbag.

My dentist says i have room for my Wisdom teeth so i'm guessing i won't be needing to take it out when it eventually fully pushes itself out?

i'm in the uk, got mine out because they were coming in at 45 degrees against my molars. it hurt a lot and hurt even more getting them out. fuck wisdom teeth

Cool, I'm getting mine out tomorrow too, OP.

A lot of people have already kind of weighed in on this already, but I'd like more opinions on if I should get knocked out or not. I think I'd rather be out for the procedure, but it just seems like local anesthetic makes everything so much easier. My situation is pretty bad and should probably take 1 hour+.

yeah 100% get knocked out for it, fuck being awake for it... the noises, the tugging, the blood on the utensils

You're gonna want to suck the clot out of that wound and keep that socket nice and dry. Lots of hot tea through a straw, stuff like that. If it ain't hurting, it ain't healing

Take a week off the gym
Get some ice cream
Watch a lot of anime and relax

All 4 came out when I was about 22. I was pretty much in constant pain, and hated it. I got caught in a vicious cycle though.

>Better eat I am hungry
>Oh shit it hurts so bad to eat, better take a hydrocodone
>Well now I am super tired, guess I'll sleep
>Wake up super hungry again
>Go back to step 1

I had friends have an easy go with it though. So hope everything is smooth sailing user.

OP.

Just got my wisdom teeth out no more than 6 hours ago.

Still hurts, nothing bad, will spit up a lot of blood, biggest concern is loss of gains from undereating and no lifting until I feel better.

I had 2 surgeries for 2 teeth each.
Both times i tried to get my calories in with blended oats, both time it infected
So make sure to not get any little pieces into the wounds, or you will look like me

>years ago when I lived at home
>getting wisdoms taken out
>go to dentist
>put mask on me
>take 3 deep breaths
>1
>I feel fine
>2
>instantly pass out
>wake up feel drunk as fuck
>mom comes to pick me up
>her and the dentist support me as I stagger to the car
>mom decides to buy me a milkshake even though I'm so fucked I can barely move
>k
>drive thru line is too long
>so she parks
>I'll be right back!
>she locks the door with me in it
>it's my dad's brand new lexus SUV with cream coloured interior
>my sockets start bleeding when she's inside still
>start choking on the blood
>try to open the door
>it's locked
>fumble around like a RETARD trying to open it as I'm holding my breath
>unlock it manually
>alarm goes off
>stand outside the car and spit blood everywhere
>stand there bent over with mouth wide open
>blood running out of mouth while the alarm is blaring
>mom comes running out with a milkshake
>has to take me back to dentist to get gauze put in my mouth
>carried thru reception with blood around my mouth and on my shirt

Didn't get a drop of blood in the car though

enjoy the pain medication, and get high as fuck

You will react differently. I reacted somewhat badly to the anesthetic so it took me a little longer to recover.

However a pal of mine had his out around the same time and went to work that afternoon. So it's pretty hard to say exactly.

One thing is that you will definitely get good at making banana smoothies because that's all you can eat for a few days at least.

it's a highly invasive surgery, definitely ask them how long it is before you can exercise again. for me I waited around a week.

I had the misfortune of getting all 4 wisdom teeth removed and 2 impacted molars removed all in one session. My face looked like a hippo for a week it was fucking rough

I had mine taken out and 1 hour later I was at work. Probably not the safest since I work around large animals.

They shot me up and gave me the gas anesthetic. I was high as fuck talking about wanting to smoke weed when I came to. I don't even smoke weed. Doctors had to have my mother escort me out the side door. I felt nothing.

ouch bruh, thats some serious swelling

sooooo there is a way to have it never swell

when my left side got pulled i placed ice on it the rest of the day and when i went to sleep i placed ice against it, during my sleep ofc it fell off. in the end it still swelled.

second time i got the rest pulled i bound the ice packs to my face with a towel. went to bed with a really fresh one and bound it to my face. in the morning i replaced it as soon as possible and kept it against my face.

i probably iced that side of my face for almost 24 hours. i had no trouble eating for the next 2 weeks like with the other time. it just never started swelling.

dont lift

even during the operation there is a chance that the the upper teeth makes a hole that connects to your nose and needs to be stitched. this hole needs to have some time to heal so it wont pop through. you will probably get this advice there as well.

First day is gonna be aids dealing with gauze and pain, be sure to take painkillers before sleeping like a previous user said. After that it's not too bad besides missing out on food

This thread is timely for me. I'm also having four taken out. The two sessions ended up having to be a month apart because of some travel, sounds like I'm down for a lot of lost time :(

I usually bike commute to work, do you guys think I should be driving for the week after?

Can we talk about how much gains we are losing here for a week? How bad is it -5 on curls -15 on bench -10 on ohp? Im just guessing, missing out on the gym for a week terrifies me

Just make sure you keep the holes clean.

Mine ended up getting infected, and my cheek swelled up to at least twice the size it was after the surgery.

I have terrible gag reflex, so they had to put me under just to get back there. What I thought was two seconds turned out to be 45 minutes for them to do the procedure and me to regain awareness. Vicodin is cool, though the only side effect it gave besides killing my pain was the biggest loss of appetite ever. For three days all I consumed was water and a single serving of yogurt, and the yogurt felt like my stomach would burst.

It will be extremely painful

dentfag here. It depends on a case by case basis. not all people react the same way. generally tho you could predict what might happen. General rule of thumb is the more bone that is removed to access the tooth the more pain/sollen it will be post op.

here's some tips for you:
pre-op:
-stay hydrated before the operation
-get a good's night sleep (helps with anesthesia and to some extent bleeding control during the operation since your likely gonna be more anxious if you didn't sleep well and will increase bp)
-Dont Drink alcohol couple days before operation or atleast night before (again helps with anesthesia)
-stay calm and just relax bring some music to listen to if you have to

During op:
-communication is key for a nice experience
-When you feel pain don't get startled. Raise your hand to get your dentist's attention or tap their shoulders

post op:
-They will amke you bitedown some gauze when you leave to keep pressure on the wound to help blood clot change every 30 min for the next 4 hours, make sure you dont use a dry gauze because the fibers might stick to the clot and pull it out. Instead get some some bottled/distilled water make a solution of around 1/4 mouthwash and rest water dip gauze squeeze it out and bite on that.
-Avoid "hard" foods, any seafood, chicken products, including noodles(tho after quick googling some say this is an old wives tale, but you literally lose nothing from not eating chicken for a couple days)
-Eat softfoods, beef flavored noodles, ice cream, etc.
-Post op bleeding may laast up to 2 weeks (mine lasted 3) by this i mean everytime you gargle, or spit there's blood. that's normal again it really varies per case.

-avoid sucking anything(straws, bottles, cigs, vapes, dicks, etc) or anything that creates a vacuum effect in your mouth as it may loosen up the clot
-regularly swish diluted mouthwash in your mouth and remember not to spit it out, just let it fall from your mouth
-swelling is normal if bone is removed as long as there's no fever. Severity, again, varies by person
-use common sense on what to put in your mouth(use distilled water to drink is best) to avoid infection, there's no harm in being overly cautions.
-if you must eat outside, never use restaurant's utensils/glasses. Ask for some plastic alterantives - you dont know how clean those are

Cleaning your new hole:
**only do this after, at the least, 2 days from your operation**

How do i know when to clean my new hole?
If you taste something foul at the back of your mouth, trust me you'll know. It will probably be food stuff

grab a cotton ball (DRY) and press it against your hole. The point of this is that you wantthe cotton fibers to adhere to whatever's stuck in there and be able to pull it out. This is why you wanna do this only after 2 days because generally normal extraction wounds is considered closed after 2 days. and then gargle with diluted mouthwash

if you still cant get it out cause its in pretty deep, grab some tweazers (angled tip better) dip it in alcohol for like a minute, dry it, use it to GENTLY pack a dry cotton ball in your hole, hopefully it will be enough to adhered to whatever's in there. DO THIS AS LAST RESORT ONLY

I would suggest to avoid commuting for a couple weeks to avoid stress and from getting your hole contaminated by whatever's in the air. So it would also be wise to make sure that your car's A/C is set so that it doesnt take air from outside and only circulate the inside air

protip: it's that button in your ac with a picture of a car and an arrow going around inside it

if you absolutely must commute, It goes without saying to keep your mouth shut at all times. Something that may help with this is save some of the gauze you get from dentist (or cottonballs will work too) soak it with diluted mouthwash solution and put it over your hole. This helps cover your hole and gives you something to bite on to avoid fatigue of keeping your moth closed

Got mine removed 2 weeks ago actually. Expect to not feel your mouth for hours after surgery. Also get ready because the hole in your mouth is a hotspot for bacteria and built up saliva, which by the way causes a really REALLY bad taste in your mouth. I still have it.

what evolution trait caused us to deal with this wisdom teeth bullshit because none of this sounds natural

wait a fucking minute, you need to be conscious during the procedure? What the fuck. I do not want them drilling out four teeth from my face unless I'm out for the count.

I guess I'll just keep ignoring it even though my dentist gives me a referral to get them out every time I see him.

You haven't had your wisdom teeth removed. Judging by your terrible English, you're not even old enough to have any yet. Local anesthesia is standard here. Why the fuck would anyone do it without?

Oh man. I remember having my wisdom teeth out. That was the worst Christmas present ever.

I remember the inside of my mouth feeling weird as fuck even for a little while after it was healed and I was able to function normally again. In retrospect, it makes sense that having a couple of teeth out would change the shape of my mouth, but at the time I hadn't really thought of it, yknow.

I'd pay attention to these dentalfags here if I were you. Taking it easy for a week or so is a small price to pay for not having to make an emergency room trip.

Hey, my dentist talked about platelet rich plasma for the wound, I don't mind paying extra but I've read that its effectiveness in accelerating healing is debated

can you give your two cents on PRP usage in wisdom teeth extraction?

Got mine taken out by a Lou Ferrigno look-alike.
General anesthesia with Tylenol 3 (Codeine) afterwards.
Didn't hurt much, pills made me feel great and not eat till I almost passed out on day 3-4.
After that it was all good, actually had some pills left over cause I didn't need them.
Advice though, don't be too quick to start eating chunky food again, I got a piece of water chestnut from Chinese food stuck in one of my sockets and had to prey it out with a toothpick days later when I noticed.

Only if you aren't a pretty big guy.

How about you use a simple google search you fucking worthless piece of shit

>we don't do it in europe
We do in first world Europe.

I had the room for it too, but one still decided to grow the wrong way for some reason.

is this a new meme or something? this is like the 5th time I've seen a post about wisdom teeth this week.

THIS.

I'm curious. Was this even a thing just a few hundred years ago?

Probably, but again, they were backward fuck and say oh well about a lot of woeful occurrences.

More grinding teeth to deal with a diet of coarser plant matter. Also probably useful as replacement teeth for ones inevitably lost.
And no, it wasn't a thing till recently cause people just expected teeth to get crooked and fall out as you aged.

>you will be completely fucked up on painkillers for a couple days
My dentist must have held out on me. I got all 4 teeth out at once with local anaesthetic and got some vicodin, but the pills only seemed as strong as an advil, so I didn't bother taking more after the first two.

I'm getting mine out tomorrow, they're putting me under.

but they are part of you, they just wanted to help

I woke up in my wisdom teeth surgery. Good times.

kek they gave me pills to take before I went there. Took however many instructed and blacked out. Last thing I remember was getting in the car. Woke up in bed thinking I never went. I wonder if I caused a scene. Also they left 1 of them in there.

I never woke up since my teen.

Ignore this fucker if you're not stupid. Google dry socket if you don't believe me.

You kinda make me feel bad about it, but there are 5 of them and they're fucked up so they need to go. I hope my parents want to pay to have them stored for stem cells so they can be frozen waiting for me.

Sorry mate, I'm actually about to get mines extracted too once my dental eligibility period starts but I feel as if I'm killing part of myself off.

I've never heard about freezing teeth for stem cells being a thing. How much is it, what is it good for?

Got all 4 taken out and felt just fine afterwards. No painkillers needed or anything. Shit didn't even hurt post-op.

11/10 doctor would get teeth pulled again.

Is your facial structure changing after removing wisdom a meme or is there any merit to it? I don't even know, there's so much bullshit on both sides of the argument, and while I'm skeptical wisdom teeth are massive and it makes sense removing them all could change your bone structure

Yes, the area on top of the wisdom teeth on your face will cave in a quite distinguishable manner.

Take drugs beforehand so of mixes with the drugs they give you and make sure to get nitrous oxide like I did.

>mfw attempting to lift on oxycodone

Fug, might be time to bite the bullet and get the bastards removed then.

My dentist referred me to an oral surgeon who told me I needed my wisdom teeth taken out, and i'm 19. During the consultation, he said that I had a lower than average resting heart rate, so he might have trouble putting me under, and that the roots of my wisdom teeth were longer than usual, so there was a chance of hitting the jaw nerve during removal resulting in temporary or permanent loss of feeling in the cheeks, chin, and tongue.

I had never had any pain with them, and I have also read that people with impacted wisdom teeth never have any problems with them during the entirety of their life, so I don't think i'll think about getting mine removed until they start hurting.

Apparently its pretty new and just like what they do with babies' umbilical cords, if you're familiar. They could help you out if you get fucked by leukemia or something.

I guess it costs about 1-2k USD to harvest the stem cells and $125 a year to store them in some freezer.

I think they have to tell you that stuff. I wouldn't be too worried. Can report back tomorrow if I'm paralyzed, they told me the same. If they aren't moving your teeth around though, no reason to get them out.

it's not painful if done correctly. tell your doctor to give you oxycodone. do at least 40mg at one time. thank me later

After I got mine done, it was so much easier to take big cum loads..best thing I did in a long time

Do you take cold showers too?
