Just a reminder that before WW1 France had the best field artillery, the best conscription system and the best infantry rifle.

they also had the best motorized logistics
Germany had best infantry doctrine, best heavy artillery, best rail networks, best officer corps

Also had the best tanks in early WW2.

Yes, debatable, no.

The French 75 is truly excellent, and the standard for all field artillery for decades to come. However, French Heavy artillery is lackluster.

Arguably the Germans had a better conscription system, but the German system left a lot of room for the smaller German states to mess up.

By WW1, the Lebel was trash tier, firmly worse than the Enfield and Mauser+derivatives. The 8mm Lebel round is trash tier compared to 7.92 mauser, .303 British, and 30.06.

>the best infantry rifle
The Lebel was trash though. Every other major power had a better rifle.

Why did they lose the Franco-Prussian war then?

but thanks to the french system of conscription they could field more soldiers as % of population than germany
because after it they went through out a series of modernization in their army

>lebel
>good
lelno

Enfield mustard race

Franco-Prussian War.

>S35 and B1meme were the best when KV1 and T34 existed

>Soviet Union was involved in the early war

>the best field artillery
They specialized in a medium range "jack of all trades" 75 mm that was a total compromise on both range and firepower.

>the best conscription system
Explain please

>and the best infantry rifle.

No

>France had the best field artillery,
They factory limited the range of their field artillery because they thought it should only be used in a direct fire role.
They also had a lot fewer guns and way way fewer shells
>the best infantry rifle.
No. Their rifles were worse than the German ones
The Brits had the best battle rifle

And Britain had the largest and most advanced navy on Earth, guess what, times change. Modern Fr*nch """men""" are motivated solely by cowardice and lust, like the rodents they so closely resemble.

Its like they're earlier designs or something

Daily reminder that rifles are irrelevant and anybody who seriously cares about their effect in war should be bombarded with artillery, which actually wins the battle

I agree. Arabs are the worst.

Since Napoleon, the French Army has had top-notch artillery.

Couldn't even pen german tanks and were so slow and mechanically unreliable that the germans simply avoided them.
The one-man turret was terrible and coordination between tanks was non-existent.

Worst uniforms though

Historical and reading comprehension

U fookin wat

>Couldn't even pen german tanks
You're retarded

French believed 75 was sufficient, that's why they didn't develop heavy artillery (except in private ventures for foreign countries).

The S35 used a slightly elongated FT Renault 37mm gun, it was not able to pen the Pz.III and IV at ideal range.

> best conscription system

Best enslavement system?

>blue pants
>best army

Lmao this faggot thinks he understands French ideals

why are they pulling such retarded faces?

The reason France was late in investing in heavy artillery is because the Cult of the Offensive completely dominated their army doctrine. The army wanted light artillery that was highly mobile. They weren't interested in heavier guns until the reality of trench warfare finally sunk in.

>The three niggers behind

WE

>France had the best X
Lol no

French military was antiquated even fucking uniforms were unfit for modern battle

Better?

>Knows nothing about the use of colonial troops French military
>Still thinks that the French military did not stand a chance against the G*rman

>Knows nothing about the use of colonial troops French military

The French colonial troups were made-up of French guarding the colonies + a few berbers, and certainly not niggers.

Have fun turning it on the spot off-road.
And that's exactly what I was referring to when I mentioned how the germans would simply avoid them.

Red pants, red kepi, skyblue jacket, white gloves for officers. The person responsible for not changing to a more subdued coloursheme is currently roasting in the deepest pits of hell.

Niggers because brown xddddddddddddddddd

>best field artillery
Definitely true, the 75mm was considered a top secret military tech until 1912 or so, it was that good compared to what other nations fielded. In contrast their heavy artillery was basically non-existent and they were forced to use quickly converted naval guns from 1914 to 1915. The French were simply that confident in a mobile war they didn't think heavy artillery would play any role whatsoever.
>the best conscription system
Definitely better than the English "one regiment gets captured and suddenly an entire town loses all of its men" strategy or the Russian clusterfuck, but it was imho very similar to the german and austrian systems? Am i missing something here?
>the best infantry rifle
That's just false though, the lebel was notoriously underpowered and slow to reload.

>the best infantry rifle.
Yeah No.

The SMLE was the best bolt action service rifle ever produced.

They were though.

>The SMLE was the best bolt action service rifle ever produced.
I wouldn't go that far. But it was definitely one of the better "main-line" rifles at the outbreak of war.

...

The KV1 was field-tested in the Winter War and the T34 didn't enter production until 1940. The SU had no involvement in the early war after the fall of Poland.

c'est quoi ce bordel?
The S35 used a 47mm gun.

47mm SA35 L34
Rate of fire : 15-30
V° : 700
Weight of the AT shell : 1.500
Penetration : 40mm /30° at 400m ; 60mm /0° at 1000 m
Practical AT range : 800

The most heavy armor present on German tanks was 30mm
47mm SA 35 rounds would go through that like butter

The B1 had an extremely sophisticated and precise transmission, there is literally no tank better for turning in 1940.

Why are their thumbs all over the place in that pic?

best to see widespread service

*bombarded with heavy artillery, which the french don't have

While the red parts were dumb, sky-blue is a rather good colour for camoflague when there is gunsmoke everywhere.

Unfortunately, the French forgot people had invented smokeless powder.

exactly
stop fucking around jeering about how the lebels are such shit rifles, and actually get heavy field howitzers and guns

Russia had best artillery all around
but poor gunnery and dumbass dukes holding on to forts
In WW2 i remember that the Americans artillery arent really that overwhelmingly impressive
but the weight of the barrage was tremendous
a battalion could call upon atleast 5 batteries to fire

>In WW2 i remember that the Americans artillery arent really that overwhelmingly impressive
>but the weight of the barrage was tremendous
This basically describes the entirety of the American armed forces in WW2. Having to cross an ocean to fight puts a weight limit on your material.

>before WW1
a lot of years before WW1

>get BTFO by 3rd world shithole rice farmers

the Lebel wasnt that bad for a service rifle. its one of the best of the worst at least. It was very accurate, reliable and sturdy, the only downside was the tubular magazine and it was quite heavy for chinks to carry

>but thanks to the french system of conscription they could field more soldiers as % of population than germany
France conscripted more people proportionally because Germany had a significantly larger population and they were desperate to match the size of its army. Is there any basis for the argument that it has to do with the actual quality of the two systems?

iirc one of the measures the French used to compensate was to have older men serve, but I can't find a good source to compare the two atm.

And the best uniform

>Best field artillery
Umm, sweetie.

Austro-Hungary had the best artillery by far. This is an accepted fact.

>best artillery
franco prussian war???
