Did Romans really live like this?

Did Romans really live like this?

No, the lived like this

the HRE is neither holy, nor roman, nor an empire

>mocking Charlemagne's throne

This show made me aware that the Romans were really just savages. Barbarians that were barely more organized than their neighbors. We tend to assume that they were a lot like us, because we copy their style to a degree, but they really were not.

That looks pretty comfy

No, they lived like this.

explain

you have no sense for theater you simpleton

I wouldn't know but I have been to the Getty Villa museum in LA, which is supposedly a reconstruction of a Roman villa from Herculaneum.

It's maybe not quite as ornate, but pretty similar to OP pic. Definitely had the wide open spaces for lounging with your statues and wine. Honestly way more impressive than I expected a Roman house to be. Those Roman aristocrats really knew how to live.

Imperial Brothel orgy scene from "Caligula"

The modernist hates tradition.

Seems significantly more ornate than most reconstructions.

Especially the ceiling with thick wooden beams made to look like marble seems a bit out of place. The wall painting is somewhat accurate though.

For comparison here are some extant 15th and 16th century European interiors that survived.

All in all it seems folks liked to actually cosy up their living space (shocker)

No, because Romans were actually black

And nowadays architecture looks sterile and gay...

Granted both the Roman and Medieval examples I posted were rich boy houses/villa's/castles rather than what the average peasant inhabited.

What the fuck are you talking about. The title of Charlemagne was that of the Roman Emperor. The HRE didn't come until later, when the carolingians fell from power and the empire was divided

bump

Certainly some Roman villas were that opulent, take for example the Villa of the Faun in Pompeii. The show is depicting the audience chamber of the Julii family, which at that time was the preeminent family in Rome, it's not surprising they'd have a luxurious space for receiving guests and clients.

Shut up faggot HRE was the last comfy civilization.

>HRE
>comfy

That coming from the ideologue of the biggest shitfest of modern Europe
