You sure you deadlift with a neutral spine? And if you want grip work, heavy rows/weighted chins, farmers walks, and holding your last deadlift rep for 10-15 seconds does wonders.

My gym has two plastic step boxes but I honestly wouldn't trust them with anything more than two pl8 but the power rack has wide safety bars so it shouldn't ruin the bar

Stack plates to make blocks, if they're iron/would be damaged for some reason put mats on them. You now have poverty blocks made of equipment every gym has, enjoy

losing muscle mass is a big problem for old people. it's quite possibly the demographic that benefits the most from resistance training. also the injury rate for lifting is extremely low compared to most sports.

Anyone have persistent soft tissue injuries?

I hurt my left spinal erector squatting at least 3 months ago now (bailed a weird way). I had to take off all back-loading movements for 6 weeks or so to not reaggrivate it.

After that though everything has seemed fine but the last two weeks or so it seems to have come back. Doesn't hurt when lifting and it doesn't spasm like it used to, but its definitely been agitated with me. Hurts when I move the wrong way,etc.


Anyone have anything similar? Im not really sure how I should go about things from here. I really dont want to take another bench-only break, but I might need to, or risk making things worse.

People who are older that do resistance training are able to stay independent for longer. Resistance training increases bone density and muscle tissue which makes older people far more resiliant to falls.

I want to improve my bench (2pl8 for reps before new year). Right now im doing push pull and one day im doing heavy bench and other day im doing heavy ohp. Should i switch it to heavy bench on both days? I wish i could do any powerlifting program but i've got herniated disc so no squats or deadlifts for me unless i want to fuck myslelf up.

can anyone tell me (from the powerlifting point of view) if i can get "fast" strength progress with this routine? How can i optimize it to achieve my goal faster?

Patience is key. As long as you're adding weight to the bar consistently, there is no issue, you just need to be patient.

You can only slow down your progression, not speed it up.
Aim to add 2.5kg a week consistently.
