HSV type 2 prefers genitals, 25%ish of the population

Both can reside on either the mouth or genitals. Loads of people don't have outbreaks and have no clue they are infected. If you don't have outbreaks, you probably don't know if it's oral or genital. Younger populations that are single and sexually active are going to have it at a higher rate. Most STD tests don't even check for either.
