Has anyone ever thought of making a custom barbell or set of weights...

Has anyone ever thought of making a custom barbell or set of weights? I was thinking it would be pretty cool to have intricate designs and patterns, something nice for the home gym you know?

Maybe I'm just high.

Sure, if you buy a nice barbell then customize it.
Making your own from scratch is not a good idea.

I bought bumper plates and put anime girls on them.

no way, pics?

I've been meaning to post them. I'll get around to it some day.

/r tutorial on how to do that. What did you use? Paint or a cover or some shit like that?

Go to your gym and look for the barbell in the squat rack.

Apparently there's a mechanism in it that you would miss if you made one from scratch. Not sure what it does, but I noticed it last time I went lifting. Probably to stabilize the rolling of it.

Ball bearings on both sides that let the plates turn freely so the center of gravity is always at the bottom of the plates and doesn't throw you off balance.

NOOOOOOWWWWWWW REEEEEEEEEE

>not visiting your local barbellsmith

most any steel has a finish to it to prevent or inhibit corrosion/rust. If you etch regular steel, you have to refinish it afterwards. That means a machine shop, and cost fucking money.

Easiest custom weights are pipe dumbbells. 3/4" pipe (SCH40 or higher) cut to size with shaft collars to hold the plates. Way cheaper than buying extra long DB handles for heavy DB rows

I understand how people jave passions and hobbies and have custom things made to suit those activities for them, but I don't think weightlifting is one of them.

Maybe a custom pair or straps, or gloves, or if you know someone into leather smithing or branding they could do something to a lifting belt for you.

But the weights and barbell itself? Doesn't really seem feasible.

You'd also have to weight until you were at about your natty limit to do it. Having to custom order/make new 45lb pl8s over and over throughout progression would turn into an expense more so than an initial investment.

What do I know.
Do whatever you want man.

W w e e w w my spelling in that was embarrassing.
Sorry.

>Having to custom order/make new 45lb pl8s over and over throughout progression would turn into an expense more so than an initial investment.
huh, wouldn't you just make them once and use them forever?

Decals. Find a custom decal website and put in the dimensions.

Plates are easy compared to bars

Sandblast or beadblast to paint off of a plate. Acid etch the steel, then recoat. A cheap hammertone would work fine, and could be redone if needed after another blast

You make a custom 300lb standard weight set.
What do you do once your DL exceeds 345lbs?

Also..youd only have 2 45s...2 35s....youd have to do alot of stacking at higher weights, its easier with less plates that are heavier

post now you lazy piece of shit

lovchev has his own weights with his name on them which is pretty sweet

NOW

Yes. But I'm a machinist and have access to a CNC Lathe. Good luck doing it without one.

make a diamond barbell

>not doing it on a manual lathe
