Should Hitler have accepted Soviet peace offers in 1942 and 1943?

Source is Goebbels Tagebucher 1942-43 p 392 and Zwischen London und Moskau p 265.

The basic offer from Russia was restoration of 1914 borders and economic ties.

It is believed that Stalin was concerned that the West was waiting in the wings for Russia and Germany to exhaust each other and then to step in scoop up the spoils.

Hitler apparently turned down the offers flat - told Goebbels he was only prepared to negotiated after an emphatic victory.

Was this the dumbest decision in history? Nazi Germany could have still survived to this day if not for Hitler's incredible autism.

The problem with accepting a peace offer without a total, crushing victory is that the Soviet Union could rearm, reindustrialize, and resupply quickly enough that a war of revenge is a possibility. The entirety of the Eastern Front collectively forms an incredibly stupid decision, but not accepting a peace offer from Stalin without destroying the Soviet's ability to fight a future war is actually a smart decision.

Stalin never forgot or forgave Churchill's invasion of Russia. I really doubt he would have backstabbed Germany in the event of a separate peace, since it was in his interest to have Germany and the British to focus their attention on each other.

Elaborating on this: to Stalin, a Europe split between Germany and Britain/France was preferable to a Europe dominated by one or the other, since the latter would pose a greater threat to the USSR

>1914 borders
Seems like a complete waste of young men and equipment that was spent up to that point. Hitler would be far too proud to accept that under any circumstance. The entire reason he went to war with the Soviets was to destroy Bolshevism west of the Urals and extract their resources to continue the war against the UK/US. In this situation, the Germans lose a bunch of land they gained in the east and don't get the resources (food/oil/metals) that they need to be truly effective against the Anglos, while Stalin expands his borders and can break the treaty any time Germany appears weak, just like what happened to him on June 22, 1941.

>In this situation, the Germans lose a bunch of land they gained in the east and don't get the resources (food/oil/metals) that they need to be truly effective against the Anglos,
Losing a bunch of land is still better than losing all of your land and blowing your brains out in a bunker.

Yeah, but the flipside is that the Soviets march into Berlin and occupy half your country for fifty years.

Hitler should never have broken Molotov-Ribbentrop if he wanted to endure. Once he invaded the USSR in a war of destruction, the war was lost. Of course he wouldn't be retarded hitler then.

There's nothing stopping Stalin from coming in for round two with an expanded industrial base and lessons learned from the war.

What are meth amphetamines, Alex?

this 1914 borders would has been a death sentence for germany

>another /pol/ fanfic thread

No kidding. They'll have to fight the USSR anyways, but give up land and let them rebuild while they dick around with the UK and the US.

Whenever these threads are posted on Pol, people shout for the mods to shift them over to his. They belong in his.

>1914 borders
That would be Germany giving up land they had before the war. Did Stalin just throw out a offer that he knew wouldn't even be considered just because?

>That would be Germany giving up land they had before the war.
Well yeah, because Germany was losing the war.

>Did Stalin just throw out a offer that he knew wouldn't even be considered just because?
I don't understand you westerners. It's like the time when you tried to arrange a peace deal in Syria with the condition that Assad would be removed from power, despite the fact that Assad was winning. Do you not realise that the offers made at the negotiating table must have some bearing to the balance of power on the ground, or do you just pretend to be retarded for memetic value?

See:
What's stopping him is the logic of geopolitics. A non-hostile Germany serving as a buffer state between the USSR and the West would serve the interests of the Soviet Union.

Is that not what happened when the Soviets set up a dozen puppet states between them and West Germany after the war ended?

I highly fucking doubt there was any 1943 offer of peace, sounds like an urban legend.

Source is Goebbels' diary, which he never imagined would be published for public consumption. I can't imagine why he would lie about this. If anything, it makes the Nazis look even more autistic and impractical.

diaries are dubious sources, especially goebbels who was the fucking minister of propaganda

ppl lie in their own notes if they know someone will read it later or they just lie because they are too afraid to be honest with themselfs

there was no such offer, makes no sense to have one either

Hitlers entire existence resolved about fulfilling his ideology. Which meant a war against russia to gain lebensraum and getting rid of jews. There is no option for peace.

I see Hitler had his diarrhea suit on

The USSR warmed up to the West during Stalin's rule. It's not unreasonable to think that if a truce was signed with Germany the Soviet Union would seek material support, if not an outright alliance, with the West. Hitler had already proven that his word was worth nothing and that he would strike again if he thought the Soviet Union was weak. A truce, from the Soviet point of view, would only be beneficial if it was used to rearm with the intent to drive out the Nazi threat.
