Idts m8

what

Also is slingshot axle close grip bench retarded or not
Thinking it'll give me more comfort with the weight in my hands

i would like to be a strong man

More like FAT MAN

Lmfao

contests are everywhere mang
Train your ohp and deadlift and get ready
>tfw twink and will never have the insane athleticism of Brian Shaw

plz someone has to be interested

Yooooooo

Getting ready for a show atm.

>fat lifter general

do more axle press.
and probably ohp.

lately ive been doing nothing but squats and heavvy dumbbell work: clean and presses, push presses, swings and snatches, all one hand and 2 hand variations. gotta say its alot of fun. not a strongman nor do i aim to be but i like some of the lifting methods

but I ohp 3x a week
Wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to program it though
Weight class? Event?
Good one

>nothing but squats
>strongman
though it's basically deadlifts + ohp + sprinting power

Strongman checking in. I have the same problem w axle press; had some success with high volume log jams and transmission squats.

other than squats (once a weekd) ive been doing heavy dumbbell lifts twice a week, so i think its safe to say ive been doing more 'strongman' type ttraining than not

Maybe? Strongman training isn't really Dumbbell that much

Yeah but your training should still involve plenty of squatting.

I know I was kidding mostly
Though my quad power is much higher than my ability to pick off the ground

doesnt strongman involve a decent amount of one arm pressing, things like circus dumbbells and what not?

circus dumbbell is one event and pretty much the only one armed press
theres occasionally one arm deadlifts as well

l use dumbbells in training but training with dumbbells is not inherently strongman training

My gym is really well equipped (lots of crossfit stuff), but it has no strongman equipment. Aside from the regular stuff (big compounds, cleans, DB variations, farmers walks...) is there anything else I can do to mimic strongman training?

All kinds of loaded carries.

endless push/strict presses for upper body work, deadlifts, cleans and farmers walks are very similar to 90% of events

also back/front squats will improve leg strength for loaded carries(like yoke)
farmers walks are where to practice speed and footwork

There's like, three of us that lurk. These threads always die out.

tfw I can no longer do strongman training because my L4 and L5 discs are compressed and my spine erectors are fucked for good. Torn meniscus in right knee and arthritis in left.

I'm the mayor of snap city.

Nigga do you even work your stabilizers or do farmers walks? DBs are fucking tits for sm. Eddie hall does inc BP using primarily dbs.

did you even read all of my post?
stabilizers are a huge meme as well. my biceps stabilize, my lats stabilize, my abs stabilize, what are these mysterious stabilizer muscles that no one ever names?
also true farmers walks are not done with dumbbells

What's a good routine for strongman? I've been doing 5/3/1 BBB with a carry event or two at the end. I don't have a log but I'll have a yoke, farmers, hussafell and a sled to work with so I just do lots of moving events

>tfw no strongman gyms near me
>tfw no log

wendler definitely recommends doing HIIT in the off days so you could have at least one seperate day with more cardio oriented carry events and maybe some pressing medleys or EMOTM
I wouldn't do BBB because deadlift is really the only event you'd be training
totally throwing out guesses here loosely based on the triumvirate but theres 5/3/1 and cube for strongman if you look for it
A
5/3/1 Deadlift
5x10 deadlift
planks
B
Incline Press 5/3/1 UP & DOWN
Close Grip Bench 5x10
Dumbbell Row 5x10
C
Squat 5/3/1
Front Squat 5x12
Stiff Legged Deadlift 5x10
D
OHP 5/3/1 UP & DOWN
Dips 5x10
Chinups 5x10

for bodybuilding esque fluff you could add in a circuit of 3x15 at the beginning of upper body days
bicep curls
lateral raises
facepulls

Oh look a thread for giants

only if you plan on being world class successful

I'm more ignorant about dis than I thought. what does sprinting power have to do with strongman? when they pull things? what does that have to do with sprinting

Actually deciding between a couple. Will post in a second, was at the gym.

Definitely the lightest weightclass, I'm a tiny twink right now.

Giants can't fit into 90 or 105

We are here to PUMP "claps" YOU UP

not necessarily "sprinting" but explosive leg strength in the push press, in every carrying event, keg toss, truck pull
twinkbois we out here

thats kg, right?

yes

What's your strict overhead press and what's your jerk/push press
Have you ever done z press or any lifts like that?

Here is my current workout trying to focus on increasing axle overhead

Other upper body/ overhead day

Powerlifting is fat manlets that think increasing only three fucking lifts makes you an athlete

KEK

Actual strongman competitors look like absolute beasts, while powerlifters are just abominations.

gratz on being more respected than blaha XD

150 strict 200 axle jerk
never done z press

150 strict isn't bad but you have room to overhead more, keep it strict go for reps to build strength.

You jerk is pretty low in comparison, hang around on OWG or look up jerk videos to learn the form. Z press will make you crazy strong try it sometime

>it is physically possible to OHP that much weight
I have never felt weaker.

yeah bulking and doing Greg Nuckols Intermediate High Volume 3x bench program but for OHP
probably not a bad idea, thanks

that image, fucking saved

>tfw just started going to The Training Hall
>hope I'm gonna make it

choosing between these two atm

Contest A will be pretty light (the OH medley is like 175/180/110), but it's NAS where I already have a membership and I might have a friend there
Contest B seems like a better competition though

Do you think that big gap between you C&P and Z press is normal?

I've Z pressed 180 but never C&P'd more than like 235-240

wtf is your strict press then? Only getting like 20lbs out of push press?

no idea. Haven't gone heavy and strict in months

Z press should be less then strict press it relys more on your core to press then your legs.

But my max on z press is 225 max on strict is 250

There should be a pretty big gap between the two. Not just because the Z press is way less stable, but because strongman tend to lean like motherfuckers when pressing and that just isn't going to work with a Z press.

Got a comp coming up in just under two months.

I am so going to get annihilated. Here's to not coming last.

If you aren't going to get first then you have nothing to worry about besides personal PRs

I know that.

Just kind of intimidating knowing you'll be 100+lbs behind a lot of the competition in a log/tire dead comp.

My first comp the guy who got first in novice had a 400lb paused bench and I had 225
It will be ok

Really, the difference is only going to matter if they have to merge the classes. I'd get absolutely screwed going in to open instead of 231 because of the different log being used - I'm not exactly going to enjoy having to open on a 225 12-inch log.

If anything they'll merge you with heavyweight novice

There's no novice/regular divide. Just the weight classes.

oh you mean open as in SHW, not open as in the opposite of novice

231 is one of the bigger groups though. Plus they'll merge 200 and 231 first

Oddly enough, here the dominant weight classes are open and 198. Most of the 231s are guys who're laying the groundwork to go up to open or lean down to 198.

>Train your ohp and deadlift and get ready
what do you think of shaw's opinion on safety bar squats.
youtube.com/watch?v=-38MZW1bdDg (5:25)
when he said they could replace lowbar squats i was shocked.
wanna switch to them for a while, as he says it makes your DL skyrocket... i just don't have access to one quite yet.

seems like a gold nugget of advice from the G.O.A.T.

No strongman gyms nearby and no room at my place for equipment.

Real creative with muh barbell lifts brahs.

>goat
But that's not Kaz, or Pudz, or even Savickas

SSB is legit tho. If you don't have one you can throw in some zerchers every other session or so

he is rightful heir of the most WSM.
he drops one sandbag that he lifted just once, and he got FUCKED in the judges.

he is the greatest and you know it fuckface.
i thought zerchers were a meme.
they are good for stronkman?

DIY dudes and old school strength camp has some good stuff you can make for low cost

post strongman bodies for me pls this is my fetish

no

K

He's great and the best currently, but he's not as dominant as Kaz and Mariusz were.

Zerchers are great assistance for loading and deadlift, but I wouldn't use them as my main squat variation. They're definitely worth a try.

>tfw inguinal hernia and can't deadlift or push press

the most frustrating part is i can do most any other lift, except my two fucking favorite lifts.

still no overhead work or squatting, i can do most any other lifts though.

fucking end me now.

w-why, i never knew there were guys here who do strongman

thicc back

it's the lifting board
I am only a twink though and have no bear pics you can't google

These are pretty interesting clips if you haven't seen them
youtube.com/watch?v=GN-fNIXZjew

Purely for strongman, there's a pretty good argument that SSB squats (or even SSB box squats) are perhaps the single best squatting movement you can do.

You need a lot of upper back strength to be good in strongman. SSBs provide that. You also tend to be doing squat events (when they show up) that effectively end up with a very high bar placement and some sort of pause or deload at the bottom so it has great carryover there.

Probablyouldn't work for powerlifting, but that's a different story.

WINLAND POWER!

Axle press today
Going for 100kg 3x5 then 90 AMRAP
Paused front squats as well, not heavy though

Bodyweight?

The farmers is really easy compared to everything else
210/hand for 90' is fuck all

Ahola is massively underrated
Fantastic athlete and still ridiculously strong

6'3 105kg give or take

Damn. Strong numbers.

I'm barely any lighter and I'd struggle to hit that for a double.

How known is Ahola outside Finland?

>putting tires on a bar

Embarrassing desisenpai

Only to aficionados of the sport. He's not a name like Kaz or JP or Shaw.

Do you guys roid?

you are all fat and gross

Mariusz doesn't count really, big competitors were banned from WSM.

Also, Savickas is literally greatest of all time.

...

Most do, some don't.

You get the odd national-level lifter who can hang without needing gear but there's not that many and pretty much none at the big circuit level.

Mariusz won in 2003 against the most decorated field ever. He'd have still won 3 titles even if the IFSA split never happened. Not quite in GOAT contention but definitely top 5.

Yeah I agree, but circumstances being what they are I can't place him as high as his record titles would

Can you really say you're a strongman if you don't do Atlas stone exercises?

Yes. Its just one event in the sport (and not even one unique to the sport).

How short is too short to be a strongman?
