Chin up replacement

What barbell / dumbell exercises should I do if I wanted to replace the chin ups? Don't have access to a pull up bar.

Rows are the only thing even close to a comparable (free weight) lift that I'm aware of.

I was making shit progress on chin ups and went to do some pendlay rows for a while and I definitely improved substantially.

In the same situation. I currently renting a basement suite and my worksets with pull ups are an extra 70 lbs at 190, so I don't want to risk damaging anything with a door frame bar. I have access to squat stands, barbell and weights. Putting the bar at the tallest setting is still too low.

If that really is the case, I guess rows would work, but it's not the same thing.

Can't do vertical pull with barbell. Closest is lat pull down. Does your gym not have a smith machine? Gym I go too only has assisted pull up machine so I just use the Smithâ„¢
