What nations did you grow to like as you studied history?

pic somehow related, i love merchant republics like Venice or Hansa and how comfy they were if you compare them to other state at the time they were surely one of best places to live

the venetians are eternal chads
unfortunatly they chadded themselves into military irrelevancy then napoopan came in

Denmark, Portugal and the Netherlands proved themselves to have a much more interesting history than I thought before studying them.

Actually they were still pretty much a second tier military power by the end (especially the navy, still pretty big and still hitting on the barbary pirates), only Napoopan ate second tier military powers for breakfast. Especially when he's let in on pretense of passing through only to take advantage and overrun the country.
The real issue with Venice was choosing neutrality. In the end, it only ever ends up meaning that you never gain from any international situation, and nobody helps you when you have trouble. A bad choice all around.

Same here,I mean the palace life was pretty fucked up but being a merchant or some other middle class ottoman must have been really comfy.
