Meh. Better a Bonaparte than the république, he did a ton to have the support of Ancien Régime elites and pretty much got it. And he was clearly trying to fit in the traditional monarchist Europe towards the end. He didn't have the legitimacy of the Capet kings, but he had the mandate of the people. I don't think it's enough, but at least I can respect that.
