A lot of the samurai managed to find high positions afterwards and former samurai clans were often part of the elite after the Meiji restoration. Pic related was part of a former samurai clan and became prime minister.

If you got with the times, being a samurai post-restoration was bretty good
Cowboys were fucked before and after barbed wire

Samurai were respectable and honourable warriors. Cowboys are autistic peasants.

>Samurai were respectable and honourable warriors
and the most retarded post today on Veeky Forums goes to

Isn't the idea that they couldn't do this without giving up old ideas of honor?

How were they autistic?
Isn't strict adherence to bushido more humorously fitted to "autism"?

You mean knights after the spear

>Not giving a shit
>Giving too much of a shit
Oh I wonder which one could be more autistic?!

>Samurai were respectable and honourable warriors.
Right, that's why a group of them fought a rebellion so they could maintain the right to decapitate peasants whenever they felt like it.

Nah that's retarded. Most of the main clans gladly slipped right into bureaucratic roles even in the Edo period.

You had 200 years without war. They weren't just sitting around polishing their swords. Samurai as warriors were largely irrelevant going into the Meiji era and instead found themselves in the government or as new businessmen.

A lot of the big companies in Japan today are descendants from those clans.

...

Guys what about vietnam war veterans after vietnam war

Vietnam war never happened user, it's a psyop

Only for the most autistic of them, mostlySatsuma based clans were that autistic about muh honorobu
