>still using iron for weights
I don't get it. When lifting big, we need to use massive iron weights which take up a lot of room in the gym, making it a hassle for everybody. Why don't they make weights out of osmium? It is the heaviest safe metal on the periodic table, so I don't see why not. They would be smaller (due to high density), safer, and more compact; the gym would be able to buy more of them since they won't take up so much room.

Why not?

And how much does 25kg of osmium cost?

How easy is osmium to forge and make weights out of compared to vinyl or iron?

lol this accessibility to osmium costs abillity to forge sage your thread etc

Osmium costs $13,000 per kilogram(or 2.2lbs). That's why.

>let's use Osmium for weights
What a fucking faggot

yeah but it's less dense so it would cost more like 13 $
A kg of osmium is about 30lbs

A kg is a kg you idiot

If i mine osmium on the moon where everything is weightless, is the osmium free?

yeah but for water because it has 1:1 density

What has less braincells, you or a rock?

Actually snorted

>yeah but it's less dense so it would cost more like 13 $

you fucking idiot take a kg of feathers and a kg of iron basic science here okay listen
which one would hurt more when it falls on your foot?
iron? yes?
because earth pulls it more so it has more weight you fucking idiot

...

This goes against everything I've learned, but it's right.

>laughinggirls.png

>falls for such transparent bait
>has audacity to call others idiot

thank you

What the fuck are you talking about? A kg is a kg no matter the density.

>mentioning vinyl

Bruh

Lol. I'm dying. What weighs more, a kg of feathers or a kg of iron?

add me to the screencap

I've fallen for it

You took it too far, bro

A kilo of iron obviously. Iron is a fuck load heavier than feathers.

>A kg of osmium is about 30lbs
How the fuck can you weigh something out to know its a kg but it ways 30lbs

got this for you my mate

youtube.com/watch?v=uH0hikcwjIA

>vinyl or iron

kek
what the fuck is this

yes, but it also weighs nothing so it will be useless for gains

>Gett a questiaan far ya weets heviaaar a kalagaram af stiil or a kalagram af faaathars

what the fuck kind of language is this creature talking in

but steel's heavier than feathers

then why doesn't everything weigh the same?

I need to think a little bit

...

Fugg

Thanks man

Because not everything weighs a kg. For example you retard my car doesn't weigh a kg

How more compact would osmium weights be?

lets take a look

Density : 22.59 g/cm3

lets asume a disk 25cm in diamtere and 4 cm in width. (about a standard big disk for a dumbell)

its volume is 12.5x12.5x3.14x4cm=1962cm3

that gives us about 44321grams. or about 44kg

now lets weight the bar, if it has a diameter of 4 and a lenght of 25cm it would weight 7kg

so all in all you would have a 100kg dumbell of about the same size of an iron 10kg one. And it will cost 1.3 million dollars
I know op is retarded in his lack of understanding of basic physics, but he has a fair point, as long as you think of it as a toy for rich people rather than something for mass use.

Also, another question, what if in a hypothetical far away future we saw a reduction in the cost of osmium because of asteroid mining?

well its impossible to weigh a kilo of feathers without it going everywhere

What a fucking idiot.

...

what does it weigh then?lbs?
haha amerifat

you

what

Scottish accent of English
youtu.be/le_uNGdpa4c.
youtu.be/HpVhSx0fZwM

seriously, imagine youre a billionare weight lifter, woudlnt you spend 1.3 million on a super small dumbell?

10/10

Here's a (you)

Fucking Veeky Forums. I swear to god, senpai.

Imagine you lost motivation to lift, and when you started again, you couldn't even squat the bar

There we go, 2nd round of bait boys.

mein neger

a fucking 100kg bar

it would be fun like a surrealist experience, imagine you go into some millionares house and hes squating just a bar and you say, HEY I CAN DO THAT
you try and have to be taken to the hospital there the billionare meets you and says

YOU SEE SUCH IS THE POWER OF MONEY YOU THINK ITS EASY BNUT ONLY THE ME CAN TAKE IT

Now I think it's bait, but just in case:
youtube.com/watch?v=E43-CfukEgs

>Squating $1,300,000

If I ever become a billionaire I'm going to get Osmium weights so I can squat me some millions

...

>Why not

Because the annual global trade volume of osmium is 120kg

youtube.com/watch?v=9ypaXNVPkSg

Limmy's show, it's all on Netflix, go watch it

...

>If I ever become a billionaire I'm going to get Osmium weights so I can squat me some millions
This is a brilliant idea. I'm putting it on my list of wacky shit I'd do if I got stupid rich.

I want to believe

> lmao2LPbench

what the fuck

you have no idea how much joy i'm getting out of imagining some DYEL walking up to the squat rack and putting 2 records on either side.

>Why don't they make weights out of osmium? It is the heaviest safe metal on the periodic table
>$13,000 per kilogram
i wonder fucking why

>osmium
youre fucking retarded. you sound like a fucking high schooler that just learned in chemistry class today that there are heavier metals. you stupid fucking idiot. do you realize how much it would cost to have osmium weights? we use iron because its the cheapest thing there is for how much it weighs.

I'm actually working on this.
You can find 180kg (lmao4plt) of Osmium in 1 million metric tons of earth.
I could sell that shit for about 5.5 million dollars.
One excavator could do the job in about 25 years.
All I need is to pick the osmium out of the earth and forge the weights and bar.
Probably gonna get some gypsies to help me out.

>Iron is the cheapest by weight.
Water is probably the cheapest thing by weight.

Iron is the cheapest thing that is durable and relatively easy to make into weights.
If you're poor, you can make huge gains with some sand, a couple of heavy duty sandbags, some nylon straps, a random iron pipe with some holes drilled in it and a platform to have decent rom despite the large bags. Or just use metal buckets filled with sand.

> I DONT UNDERSTAND WHAT THE FUCK HE IS SAYING

He looks so broken by the end of this video.

>my whole life is a life
>but steel is heavier than feathers

>mfw imagining the subsequent post on Veeky Forums
>so i went to this dyel chads house and he was just squatting the bar
>so i worked in and got under the bar
>i went atg immediately and woke up in an ambulance
>fucking chad and his bullshit osmium weights

>Not lifting with Plutonium plates

>American """""education"""""

>tfw can't break my $1,000,000 one rep bench max

holy shit.

this thread...

HAHAHAH harty keks were had

well, ok osmium is retarded

is there any other choice, lead for instance?

>A kg of osmium is about 30lbs

>American burger education in action.

...

i would also stop being racist for a girl like that

You're confusing weight with mass dumbass. Weight is the force of gravity. Mass is how much stuff there is.

A 20 kg iron bar bell would only weigh 57 kg if you made it from osmium. Not 100 kg.

Then you were never racist in the first place

just a bitter virgin lmao

...

i have no problem admiting that, is a girl like that hard to get?

2/10

~$740,000, assuming you can even find somebody to supply you that much. It's about $925 per Troy oz

Ken M

It's not bait. It's fact.

A better question is why there isn't plates made of Lead instead of iron

Leads are for dogs dumbass

Osmium is literally the least abundant stable element in the Earth's crust. I'd be shocked if the entire amount that's ever been mined would be enough for one whole gym. It's at

LE EBIN MASTERTROLEMAN

Too soft

So if i'm not planning on hitting them hard against the ground they are good?

like, they would be good for bench pressing, overhead pressing and shit like that

Im in on screencap

If you didn't plan on the plates hitting pretty much anything, yeah

>I don't understand the concept of density: the posts
