I want to deadlift heavy once every 2 weeks anyone have success with this? currently doing texas method for squats and gnuckols 3x week bench program. I find that heavy deadlifts are too taxing so I only want to do them twice a week.

my idea is this:
week 1:
monday: clean pulls 4x5 (I like this exercise used to do it when I did weightlifting)

weds: 3x15 hyperextensions

week 2:
monday: clean pull 4x5
weds: 3x15 hyperextensions
friday: deadlift 1x3 RM (increase by 10 each 2 weeks)

thoughts?

Seems fine for an early-intermediate lifter.

I'd probably add more posterior chain work though. Like leg curls or glute/ham raises on friday week 1.

I'd do the clean pulls for 3 reps per set to use some heavier weight, and probably take it easy on the hyperextensions the Wednesday before Deadlift Friday.

Don't do leg curls. Glute/ham raises are fine.

thats what I was thinking initially, however because of excuses (I'm tall + long torso), deadlifts always feel taxing as fuck, I'd rather do them once every 2 weeks. Also I've done RDL/SLDL many times, just don't like them that much, they seem to put pressure on my lower back (again long torso) even if my back is straight, also they just look fucking off because of my proportions. I'd rather do clean pulls as my variation to build that upper back. I know I should probably be doing sumo but I just don't want to. Maybe I'll do once a week, but really is it that bad to do it every 2 weeks?

I'm intermediate, 315 bench, 405 high bar beltless squat and 475 beltless deadlift
why not? I'm already squatting a lot with texas method, I was under the impression that squats help your deadlift. I've heard people who don't deadlift for some time and come back and hit a pr just because they got stronger doing squats and other pulls.


Also does anyone use weightlifting shoes for deadlifts? Ever since I stopped weightlifting and started powerlifting, I've been deadlifting barefoot because thats what people do, however I remember deadlifts feeling a lot more comfortable with weightlifting shoes, maybe its because I have such a long torso so it raises my hips slightly for a stronger start position?
