How did pre-industrial civilizations like Greeks or Vikings get so ripped like statues pretend when they didn't have access to perfect diets, steady supply of meat, protein, etc.?

They didn't. They just understood anatomy and made statutes depicting what they would consider ideal bodies.

they didnt live sedentary lifestyle and had to shit manually, i.e. manual labor

>implying greek and viking warrior classes didn't have access to good diets high in protein

yes but lets not forget the average greek was around 5'3 sooo.....

Assuming there were real people who looked like those statues, they'd be rich upper class people who could eat like any of us today.

pornography didnt exist

is this banter or are you actually serious?

>vikings
>statues
????

Anyhow, they did in fact have access to absolutely GREAT diets, in fact likely better than us.

Keep in mind that the citizen class wouldn't involve many, only a few hundred people. The rest of the subhumans are a different story, but those are not the ones portrayed.

bruh Pelops was fucking 15 cubits tall

Try learning what "average" means sometimes.

I'd argue subhuman little brown peasants weren't really greeks, but they did live in the area and constituted the bulk of the population.

>subhuman little brown peasants

come on man

you are pathetically stupid

Ancient Greece like the Vedic civilization and eventually India was a caste society.

So was norse society for that matter.

Are you an idiot or just talking out of your ass?

>tfw don't have to shit manually like a 12 century plebian

euronymous

Your body reacts to stress - it doesn't matter if that stress is a barbell, a Greek hoplite or a Baltic pagan. Same way soldiers get big and strong while sleeping for 2 hours every 7 days and eating baracks food.

Those with shit genetics died

People were much more physically active

>physical work all day every day
>fight wars with you hands
>swinging axes and swords all the time
>plenty of goat, fish, swine etc to eat
>rice galore
>beans
>vegetables straight from nature
>do nothing but work out and eat all day
They had great diets, what do you think these times were like? People eating dirt with meat once a year? We also don't know exactly what they looked like, lots of artist interpretation going on. More than likely they were ottermode at best.

>statues

Cmon man think this one through

As much of the asshats around here incoherently suggest, there were many reasonably high-quality sources of protein, and an unescapable abundance of physical labor. A cow, for example, produces milk, what the English called "white meat" at times (specifically times prior to the Protestant Reformation when substantial portions of the land were controlled by the church and designated as for common use, and anyone who could get a cow was able to graze it there and take the milk as their source of protein until the cow eventually died and was itself eaten. Meat's popularity in the west is largely due to the fact that meat in the Victorian era was grass fed, which had low overhead costs and was well sufficient for the demands of the era, meaning it was incredably affordable for even poor families.

The Greeks and Scandinavians in particular had diets full of seafood, with all the advantages thereof.

But ultimately the most important factor was necessity of physical labor, regardless of social class. Notice that those statues are not in general super-jacked, but mostly just well-muscled and low in body fat (often taken to artistic extremes in statuary, but still not excessive in terms of actual muscle mass), characteristic of a consistently physically active but not weight-focused life.

All the time we spend at our computers was used on either cardio or lifting weight. Although as farming techniques and plumbing got better they did get less cut.

>Same way soldiers get big and strong while sleeping for 2 hours every 7 days and eating baracks food.

Yea that doesnt happen

The greek citizens also did in fact quite literally lift weights. Pic related are a kind of dumbbell used for both weightlifting and certain olympic events.

Other than that there were also rock/boulder carrying, logs, bags of sand etc. All common to many ancient cultures.

Keep in mind how for example the sport of Strongman is in fact based on a combination of ancient olympic events and highland games.

?

...

That is some way along buds i assume. Are you under the impression that nobody prepares for those types of things?

zambz?

Oh, I know this one. Muscle is timeless people loved it then as much as now. But people weren't as jacked as you'd think and you're right in assuming they should be smaller.

What the artist would do is have the model flex each muscle as he sculped or drew it to enhance the perceived musculature.

... you don't know what you are talking about do you?

Sculptures were (aside from some hellenic ones) ideal bodies, rather than realistic ones.

They'd have a statue of heracles in the gymnasium and look to him as a goal.

you kind of messed up by writing vikings but still

>vikings
>shitty access to meat

pick one and only one

>zambz is the only vargposter on the whole of Veeky Forums

>still believing the high protein meme
brah all you need is a lot of potatoes and grains, something the greek and the vikings were masters in

clen and tren

I mean all you need is a heavy ass rock and you have
>atlas stone
>weighted carry
>some sort of goblet/zercher squat
>some awkward ass ohp

I mean I have no idea how they trained though

>be greek citizen
>work out 12 hours a day

>be greek helot
>manual labor 12 hours a day

>be viking
>wilderness survival 12 hours per day

Theres your answer

>potatoes
Do you?

Anal injection is the best way to absorb protein.

Automatic shitting confirmed gains goblin.

And your thoughts?

>What is army ranger training

61 days of sleeping an average of ~1.5 hours a night, eating one MRE a day

Now the normal 11b grunt doesn't get anywhere close to that training, but I digress.

They had to physically work for food every day, kids were taught work and fighting from an early age. They ate protein-rich foods. Built their own houses.
Those people had to be active on a daily basis, so it's no wonder their bodies reflected this.

1/75 ranger here
when you're at school you lose all your muscle and when you get back it fucks your metabolism so bad you get fat.

Anyone who says they got in shape at ranger school is a liar. It literally takes 7 years off your lifespan it's so bad for you.

Most Greeks were really into wrestling which is a huge muscle builder and fat burner, I'd imagine even more so when anal penetration is involved.

>Princes who had military command duties and spent all day training in combat, art, and literature with the most skilled professionals in the land while feasting on wild boar and cheeses provided by a literal army of hunters and farmers would not be ripped.

Fuck off, meater-beater police Varge

I'm a crew chief, so I wouldn't know. Got a friend who went through and it took him an entire year after he got through to get his lifts back up. I watched a documentary on it and it looks like the shittiest of all the special training. Looks like hell

the entire point of it is to see if you can lead people who are literally too retarded to think(because they're only thinking about sleeping/eating) while also being retarded yourself.

Haha, that's a funny way to put it. I can almost not function if I don't get at least 6 hours a night, usually try to get 9, so I don't know how I would get through it. Probably wouldn't.

Same here. I just feel so bad when not getting enough sleep, I can't do shit. And the worst of all, I can't just go to bed early, because then I don't feel like sleeping. I went to a doc in order to get some sleeping pills, with this I may be able to change my day/night clock.

No shitty chemicals in the food.

Shhh. You'll shatter their world view.

>im fat and ugly because of bad chemicals !
i also hate modern nutrition but come on

Not him, but it is common understanding that humans have been getting taller with subsequent generations due to good diet and other epigenetic factors.
Although 5'3 seems too short, they were probably all below 5'10.

People don't go to army ranger training to get in shape fag, in fact alot of people lose muscle mass in that training. The purpose in it is to show that you have the mental fortitude to keep going on little to no sleep while exhausted

oats, lots of oats

It's foolish to believe that food surpluses / good diets are only possible in modernity

wrong, totally fucking wrong.

back then, rich people were FAT. being fat meant you were upper class, it was seen as being in the upper-class. It was all about status,.

If you were fat, you could afford to eat all you wanted without working for it. you were seen as rich.

"The Metapontion necropolis ... revealed that the average height of adult males was between 162 and 165 cm, that of females between 153 and 156 cm, and with a body weight of approximately 60-65 kg for males and 50-55 kg for females; in other words, the findings of earlier examinations were soundly confirmed in this respect.

- Kagan, Donald, and Gregory F. Viggiano, eds. Men of Bronze: Hoplite Warfare in Ancient Greece. Princeton University Press, 2013."

It is ridiculous to be uninformed in this age of information

How recently do you believe that people discovered the concept of a vitamin?

So how do you feel now that you are on the other side of the training? Are they just trying to train your mind to function in the worst possible situations?

Im sure somme people did had great bodies, high class people trained in weapons and wrerstling since childhood and there were no processed foods.

This. Many people in Veeky Forums have a skewed view o nutritional requirements such as vitamin and microelements. Many think, the more the better, while this is exactly what leads to an other kind of diseases - hypervitaminoses and overloading with iron, chromium, manganese, copper, zinc, molybdenum... It completely fucks up your chemistry. We don't need much, we evolved around scarce resources and our mechanisms, such as Vitamin C recycling, make us more efficient, meaning, we don't need huge amounts of a given vitamin when compared to other animals.
Remember, there are no confirmed positive effects from overdoing your daily intake on micro/macroelements and vitamins. But there are known negatives.

>subhuman little brown peasants
Most low class generally had tanned/brown skin

lowclass=manual labor/shit jobs
Shit jobs=suntan(generally)
suntan= Dark skin
Dark skin becomes associated with low class

Even irish/viking/Jewish slaves got darker skin from enslavement

"fat" to them is probably closer to what we would call a dadbod.

They lived in excess but generally lived more active lives than the average guy today.
