How did America go from a weak colonial power to a superpower with a global hegemony? Was it their natural resources...

Because most colonies don't have a territory filled with natural ressources that spans from one ocean to the other and that pretty much nobody ever tried to invade in more than a hundred years. Also, the wealth of the States was never really exported to some European country.

It would have been incredible if America DIDN'T do well. America is nearly invincible thanks to its geographical isolation, it's absolutely fucking massive, it's rich in almost every natural resource, and thanks to its cultural heritage it's been able to trade and ally itself (at various time) with most of the preeminent European powers of the day. No other country in history has ever been so advantaged.

There are many answers to this question, but today I'm going to focus on 1 thing in particular. Oil. America was the first country to realize how insanely vital oil was going to be in the 20th century, and fortunately for them, they also had an extremely large supply of it directly beneath their own soil. Only Russia and Saudi Arabia produce more oil per day.

Like Britain, their geographical location makes them reliant on a strong navy, and having one of those naturally lends itself to a wide reach of influence (again, see Britain)
Unlike the bongs however, America is far away from all the drama going on in Eurasia, so can enter and exit conflicts at their leisure

Americans got an entire continent to themselves and share basically the same culture throughout their entire said continent
Europeans have to share a much smaller continent and have differing cultures and love killing eachother
America doesn’t really have anyone to threaten it, so it could just grow like it did during its isolationist period
