The Soviet Union was not a benevolent force. They didn’t attack Nazi Germany out of generosity for Jewish people. It was the USSR that allied with Germany to take Poland, which no doubt helped the Nazi’s infamous persecutions in Poland. They only fought Germany when the Germans attacked them. Their relief of Holocaust victims was merely a bi-product of their drive towards sacking Berlin.
The USSR was a lot like Nazi Germany. They committed genocides, they persecuted their citizens, took away freedoms. Stalin especially was a terroristic leader, and he governed through the use of terror, much like Adolf Hitler.
Both Nazi Germany, and the Soviet Union, were bad guys. If Germany had never attacked the Soviet Union, I doubt Stalin would’ve felt very sympathetic for the Holocaust victims. He never had any reservations about killing people himself.

Were the gulags really as bad as the concentration camps, though? They didn't have anywhere near the mortality rate that the concentration camps did. And the USA had its own concentration camps, which I think it is funny nobody really talks about.

Lenin created the gulag system as well as the soviet secret police (the cheka) which became the NKVD. I dont think you really understand what communism was. It was a hardcore and brutal ideology and not the flowers and sunshine bullshit comfy middle class nerfed westerners think it "actually" is
I'm going to be honest. I'm trying to work out the pros and cons of communism. And I research it and I see one set of information that seems not that bad.
Then another set of information that counters it. My take though, is that even in the USA, our prisons are filled with people, and even then those people aren't protected, and are often abused by guards and other prisoners.
In my head, whenever I see a bad aspect of communism, I find some equivalent in the United States.

no. Nazi camps like Treblinka were death camps, as in, people were sent there just to be murdered. Gulags were brutal slave labor camps and the LOWEST estimate is 1 million deaths from 1929-1953. And to compare the Gulags to the Japanese internment camps is also a false equivalency since there was nowhere NEAR that amoung of death or abuse. in fact, as the war progressed, japanes americans were allowed to serve in the military

The USA had work camps, not concentration camps. I live in central pa, USA.there was a camp about 12miles from Carlisle. The camp was at pine grove furnace,now a state park,they made roads & trails in the Park,plus in the fruit harvesting seasons they were hired out to local orchard owners to pick fruit. There are a lot of commercial orchards in this area
