To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Russian invasions. Overstretched German supply lines, too wide of a front, not accounting for women fighters, the sheer mass of Russian forces and the Siberian reinforcements at Moscow all come to mind as other reasons why the German offensives in the East stalled to a halt.

There is no meaning lost and no serious distortion of meaning when you render poдинa as motherland.

It's literally "birthplace" not "motherland".

I often see people posting shit like "Why is it called FATHERLAND in Germany and MOTHERLAND in Russia?" which is nonsense. It's still fatherland (oтeчecтвo) in Russian.
