Why train legs?

Seriously, why shouldn't I skip leg day?

Most people - including fit and athletic people - never directly train their quads and hamstrings with heavy weights and they turn out fine. On the other hand, bodybuilders' legs look weird and don't fit into jeans.

Is there any reason why I should train my legs if they're already naturally thick (ie no birdlegs) and I still want to wear off-the-rack pants from nordstrom? Is leg day just a meme?

I like training muscles too, but I also like being proportional and being able to fit into clothes for normal people. My legs already get exercise from cycling and sports, so is there any point to a dedicated leg day at the gym? Or is it just really about gaining muscle for its own sake?

do you people actually think you will get freakish legs natty? cmon, after a cut your legs will always be nice looking natty. if your a fat fuck you'll look nasty no matter what. if your legs are "naturally thick" you just have a higher bf then you actually think. the moment you cut fat your legs will look tiny compared to the rest of you.

Squats doesn't just train legs. It trains upper back/traps/lats, lower back, abs, spinal erectors, abs, and I swear to god, I always get a chest pump after squats, idk why

When you join in the many muscles, you have a sort of effect where you tell your hormone system to release a whole bunch of testosterone, because it thinks it needs it to survive

You can do the same with deadlifts too. Or any compound movement, but the less total muscle it works, the less you'll have an effect

I used to train legs a lot when i wrestled and did taekwondo but now i just dont give a shit. My legs are already really big and ill train them maybe once a month as a way to burn some calories since training legs is usually way more taxing on the body. Good way to build work capacity as well.
If you just wanna look good it doesnt fucking matter. Its just leg day warriors pushing the "dont skip leg day" meme to make themselves feel better.

Go fuck yourself. All squats are good for are legs, ass and maybe lower back. No one is gonna develop their upperbody by squats and deadlifts. The perfect example is that programs that specialize in squats and deadlifts always develop lifters with huge legs and underdeveloped core, arms, chest and back.

Seriously. Have you ever squatted before? I remember my first time squatting, and the day after my abs were sore as fuck. Now that I haven't gotten doms since two years ago, I stopped getting them. But that doesn't mean it's not activated

And if you choose high bar, in order to keep a tight upper back for optimal performance, everything at and above your lats have to be activated. Think I'm wrong? Hold the bar with your one rep max for as long as you can. It'll be a few seconds into you have to rack the weight back

Of course it's leg focused. But to say it only trains legs is wrong. And again does not disprove squats increase testosterone and is literally the exercise version of /fraud/

It doesn't take much to be considered "fit" by normie standards. If this is your metric for your training, then do what the fuck you want. Just know you'll be weak as fuck in the long run since the legs generate a fuck ton of strength and power overall.

Athletes are a totally different story because their training is usually highly specific, and may or may not need to take and advantage of lower body power generation. If you're asking this, you're not an athlete, so this methodology is irrelevant to you and shouldn't even be in your thoughts

dont overtrain legs. just do kettlebell goblet squats with every workout. you dont want them to get too big, just strong for athletics. big legs are actually a detriment. you ever see those dudes with thighs rubbing? it's fucking sad

You should skip legs, it's a waste of time if you care about aesthetics. I just do full upper body 3 days a week (and run 2 days a week) and have made mad gains over the last 6 months.

Jimmy and Charlie are both noobs. They both decide to start working to get chicks. Both of them are skinny-fat and haven't done sports because playing WoW and CS;Go was "better".

Jimmy takes his advice from the brahs and Bodybuilding.com. He gets on a bodypart split, recomps for 4 months, runs a clean bulk for 4 and cuts for 2. Jimmy has put on weight in all of the right places but his legs are a bit lagging.

Charlie goes on Veeky Forums and reddit and does SS. He eats big for 8 months and puts on a lot more weight than needed. The bulk (pun intended) of Charlie's muscle gain was in his legs, even after a very hard cut. His upper-body is lagging.

Now both of our boys have lagging muscle groups. However, Jimmy will have an easier time because developing your lower body to be in proportion with your upper body is easy. Jimmy also gets the girls to pay attention him because he has a big back, big boobs/shoulders and good arms. Charlie on the other hand can troll people about 1/2/3/4 and how he is a "dedicated strength athlete who doesn't care about vain bodybuilders".

Moral of the story, be like Jimmy.

No shit you are gonna be sore in your abs when you first squat. Its a fullbody exercise. Its still garbage for developing the upperbody in the long term.

I never denied that its a full body exercise but the fact is that it will only significantly develop your legs, ass and lower back. If you deny this you are an idiot.
You use your legs to stabilize your body while curling, doesnt mean you can develop your legs by fucking barbell curls.

squatting and deadlifting heavy (1.5 - 2 times your bodyweight), stressing your CNS with that kinda weight increases your testosterone levels significantly and, in turn, makes your abs and arms grow faster and more significantly, you know all those muscles that you think will get you laid but won't because you're a pussy

This is such fucking bullshit. I lifted for 2 years and only put up 225 on the benchpress. Started squatting and almost immediately my upper body started getting stronger. In three months, I was bench pressing 275. I don't what it is about squats but the damn things will make your entire body stronger.

A better question, why not skip back day?

Do you like being strong and getting the optimal hormone release from your workout? Then do legs. The legs and ass have the most muscles in the entire body and also the strongest. When they get hit the body releases the most testosterone and growth hormone in response, which is beneficial for overall muscle growth.

OP here. I squat only 115kg but I'm a 1.73m manlet so my legs are a lot thicker compared to the rest of my body.

go for high reps. i was in your boat and did the super squats program, where the only thing you do for legs is a 1x20 linear progression on squats and i gained intense size
