the ussr ended famines that plagued russia for centuries
Checked and fantastic reference.
Wrong. The USSR caused two of the worst famines ever in Russian history and relied on food imports from the US in the cold war. They went to China to figure out how to improve agriculture. That's how bad things got.

Also, Russian empire had collectivism before and it failed so they created the Stolypin reform which basically created conditions for individual empowerment in the farming sector. The USSR tore all that down and removed the profit incentive from the collective system that had already been more successfully employed by the empire. So Russia was on the way to being highly successful with it's individual empowerment plan, which was more successful than Imperial "obshchina" collectivism", and both were more successful than Soviet government proprietary authority.
