What do you guys think of doing heavy rack pulls and instead of increasing weight, lowering the height over time until you are deadlifting directly off the ground?

My tris are fuarking hueg and my biceps are non-existent, don't think that will be much of a problem.

Been having some brachialis pain when benching, hopefully this can fix it.

Some people like Gbro also only deadlift from boxes except for competition (because of previosu injury).

I'm gonna do it. Seems like an interesting way to train. Going to start at the knee with my 3 rm rack pull and lower a couple inches every 2 weeks. Will report back later with injuries or success.

There was some user that had a bunch of pads (18 total, I think) and he would take a pad off each side every time he'd deadlift, or something like that. Worked decently well, iirc. I think you'd need to make sure that your positioning is going to be exactly the same is it normally would be during that portion of the lift in order for it to be truly effective though.

Curls 2-3x a week are very worth it, and also make sure that your elbows stay under the bar the entire time when pressing. A lot of times, people overtuck and cause their elbows to get in front of the bar, which cucks power and can cause tendinitis.

Good call on the form stuff. Hopefully the gradual lowering will keep a groove developing and not just fuck my deadlift form. On second thought, i'll do real deadlift sets to warm up then overload on racks.

It can work, but there's some caveats to it.

One, your form the whole way through has to be consistent. If you start treating the rack pulls using the most optimal rack pull form instead of the one which looks like your actual lockout position, it won't carry over as well.

Two, block or mat pulls work so much better than rack pulls it isn't funny. Do them if you can.

There's multiple ways to program this sort of stuff, but the traditional way is to start with just over your deadlift PR and rep out rather than something that's actually heavy from a high rack pull.

Interesting, what is the difference between block pulls and rack pulls? I thought that was just two ways of changing the height of the bar, I'm a newfriend. Thx for responding.

It's the start that's different. With block or mat pulls, the weights are what's in contact with the ground, so as you have slack in the bar like on a regular deadlift and it comes off the ground more like it would when you're pulling from the floor. With the rack, its the bar itself that has all the weight on it so the pull is a little more different. Kind of like the difference between doing board presses versus pin presses.

It's not a huge difference, but it's there. This also tends to make block/mat pulls a little easier to be explosive on.

How many of you aspire to be personal trainers ? What are your other hobbies?

For non-powerlifting purposes, there's actually a few situations where the rack pull is better suited for carryover. Frex, I compete in strongman from time to time and that often means having the 18' axle deadlift as an event. Since the axles have next to no flex in them and half the time the inner weights are bolted/welded on, that ends up with the rack pulls working more like the main lift than the mat pull does.

The rack pull certainly isn't useless, but god damn is it often misused.

So I am doing the Russian Bear routine. It's pretty retarded and I doubt it will help much but I am having a lot of fun with the deadlifts. Basically do a 5RM, then 90%RM, then do as many sets of 80% 5RM as you can with 1-2 minute rests.
