Don't be near a screen minimum for an hour before bedtime , you get stimulated by light and can't sleep due to this. This includes cellphones.

Blue light wavelength keeps us awake,.Avoid it.

When in bed, count your inhales and nothing more. Try focus on it. If you live in an area with crickets they help a lot, if not, I would try low level speakers with ambient sounds (rain, ocean, crickets, etc) but only if your insomnia is too great.

Zinc supplements (like in ZMA) allow better REM states, it's easier to get rested with it. Don't fall for the testosterone boost, that's a disproven effect, but it helps with rest.

doing things that are engaging throughout the day

Exercise regularly and hard each session. Don't do cardio ~2 hours before bedtime. Only use the bed for sleeping, nothing else. Personally, I imagine that I am falling in the air with nothing to catch me.

Getting enough exercise is the number one key.
Besides that, just jerk off or count your breaths or daydream or do something else that keeps your mind from being too engaged.

If you get in bed and don't fall asleep in 20min, get out of bed and go sit on the couch in the other room for a while then go back in bed. Repeat until you fall asleep.

Slowly get yourself into the habit of going to bed before 12 at night and get up around 8 or 9. This could mean going to bed 10 mins earlier a night for a while. I find it helps to read and hour before bed but alot of people say that keeps them up at night so see where you stand on that.
