Why did Crusading fall out of favor in the late middle ages?

Why did Crusading fall out of favor in the late middle ages?

Was the cost no longer justified, was it seen as a pointless endeavor?

wh*tes got BTFO hard and learned their lesson to the point where they would rather fuck with byzantines than with muslim warrior

Does this kill the crusader?

Did Civ really make a Kurdish guy Black?

No, someone edited the caption. That's Civ 5's Askia of Songhai.

After the last crusade they were very demoralized and then killed all the templars for the money. And Frances king was broke so they really couldnt afford it. They tried getting some shit going but never got the momentum going again. And i think they were too busy with their internal politicking and other shit.

It’s a scenario within the game.

Reminder that the moment an actually serious European army showed up in the Holy Land instead of a bunch of ragtag wanabees, the Muslims just got on all fours and spread their cheeks without a fight;

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sixth_Crusade

>posts the guy who got BTFO'd by dick lionheart

They reused Askia for Saladin in one of the scenarios because they're lazy shits

They literally gave up the Holy Land without a fight lmao.

no, that's just ayyubid being nice and friendly, nothing more, christcuck.

the one after that the ayyubid gang raped the cucksaders boipussy
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seventh_Crusade

Late 15th century killed the crusades to the Holy Land because 1) Byzantium ded, this removes easy stopping point from Europe->Outremer and pushes the fight against the Muslims into Europe. no point sailing off to fucking Jerusalem to fight them when you can fight them in Hungary
2) Spain reconquered by Christians so you can't crusade there anymore either
3) New world full of heathens, might as well go crusade there instead

*mamelouks reconquer it with ease few years later*

stay mad =)

Seeing this thread made me lol pretty hard because it had so many replies and wasnt immediately stopped with the 1st reply: Christcucks got BTFO

> no, that's just ayyubid being nice and friendly, nothing more, christcuck.

Sure thing buddy, not like there was a massive uproar about it or anything lmao

They got scared and dropped on all fours.

Killing kebab was out of fashion. Why not plunge Europe into bloody brother wars?

Also these cunts

Meant to post flag

This+ the upcoming Renaissance and reformations

>muh few cherrypicked battles!

Almost all crusades were failures after the first one, some being biggest failures than others.
The ayyubids/mamelouks won, the crusaders lost, end of the discussion.

Your butthurt is delicious tho

> Almost all crusades were failures after the first one

Norwegian crusade, Venetian crusade, third crusade, German crusade of 1197, barons crusade etc.

> The ayyubids/mamelouks won

No, the Mamluks won, the Ayyubids got stomped out of history before the crusades even ended.

Yeah muslims completly destroyed the little christian ass in the second crusade, people's crusade, the crusade of 1101, fifth crusade, Seventh one, barbary crusade, eighth Crusade etc. You can quote 2-3 memes irrelevant crusades as christian victories as best.

overall the thir crusade, the 1197, the other barbary Crusade were almost muslim victories

gg ez no re

>Ayyubids got stomped out of history before the crusades even ended

They literally won 2 crusades on their own and take back jerusalem
>Result: Decisive Ayyubid victory

> They literally won 2 crusades on their own and take back jerusalem

...only to surrender it back without a fight the moment an actually serious army showed up from Europe lmao

> they did well in the third crusade too

ahahahahahahah

holy shit

losing a castle to some fucktard Frenchoenglishman and his 40 knights at arms and then covering around his camp too afraid to engage him while he literally rode alone and shouting duel challenges as he wished and no Muslim dared to accept the challenge out of being so pussified at witnessing such a slaughter at Jaffa.

HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

> Single source wikipedia article

> that single source is Al-Maqrizi

Fucking kek

How about you read the primary sources on what happened earlier, and how Fakhr-ad-Din Yussuf died lol

Not to mention that Al-Maqrizi does not state those numbers lol

>OH NO NO NO NO HA HA HA

How does this even happen?

Look up into other Portuguese naval engagements at the time, loads of such roflstomps

Sail and cannon bitch

Moortugueses rape baby get their strenght from their muslim blood, as lisbonna was muslim for 400 years

>Luther started 30 years War

Crusades didn't die down until relatively recently, off the top of my head I think people talked about it in the 1700's, they just never made any progress. Europe kind of turned to internally fighting after they had sprung ahead of everyone technologically

>30 years war was the only violent religious conflict during the reformation

Can it be said the lack of manpower and language barriers made it extremely difficult to organize crusades?

Not the lack of manpower, but divided leadership and lack of clear hierarchy and chain of command is to be blamed for nearly every crusader defeat.

Every time they had a single proper army with a clear command they fared well.

Ottoman had guns my man

Europe discovered a new world. So why would I as a king spend money to reclaim some sandfilled city surrounded by jews and muslims.

If I can use that money to claim exotic lands in the new world.

These assholes can arguably be blamed for all the woes in the world.

The Mongols introduced new military innovations and changed the game.

>The Holy Land were lost in 1291
>The last real "Crusade" was the little Crusade of the green count of Savoy, in the XIVth Century
>The new world was only discovered in the XVIth century

Genius.

The pope lost power as the kings of Europe won the investiture controversy. This is reflected in the gradual trend in which kings start to crusade on their own without the Pope being the leader. Eventually however, the pope's influence wains so much that leading your own crusades became pointless and focus turned inwards.

Sixth crusade was a loss in the grand scheme of things because the failure of the Crusades to capture Egypt in the next two crusades ushered in the rise of the mamluks. A crusader egypt would not only have been kino, but it was essential to securing the Crusader states economically and geopolitically. This jad been realized since the 1170s at least. Its not a coincidence that anglos captured the levant from Egypt and reestsblished european rule over Jerusalem.

Many centuries later i should add*

>"15 little boats"

It went out of fashion, which was important for a social class as preening as the knightly aristocracy. Not long after the First Crusade, the movement was sustained by the myth and legend of that first campaign, with knights journeying east for the honor of reliving the same adventures as their ancestors.

Over time the old Crusading families and their romantic traditions weakened, broke apart, or vanished, and were replaced by families from cadet branches and those made nobles during the many other wars of Europe since the First Crusade. Some carried on a crusading ethos, but very often they were localized to more recent wars in Spain, Eastern Europe, North Africa, and the Balkans, so their sons were more eager to gain honor and recognition fighting Slavs or Moors like their immediate ancestors rather than LARP as Godfrey of Bouillon.

All considerations of cost and purpose ultimately derived from the above focus on tradition. The First Crusade was no more justifiable in cost or no more pointless as an action than any other action that could have been taken in the Middle East at any other time, but it was undertaken anyway because the First Crusade generation were following their own traditions based on the adventures of their own kin working as mercenaries or going on pilgrimage in the East.

>imply p*pists and an*baptists weren't responsible for all of them
