Did desegregation and the banning of discrimination in housing ruin the housing market forever? What would happen if blacks were completely banned from living in a major city? Would white millennials finally have a cheap and safe place to live and raise a family?

This would probably also create a baby boom. These urban millennials would have a cheap and safe place to have a multibedroom house or apartment and no more violent thugs in the school system

Bump

housing prices are high because everyone wants to live in the city. removing blacks would do nothing since other poor ass people would move in and urban demand would still rise.
All the desirable housing would still be desired.

Why do you think about Blacks though just wondering?

>housing prices are high because everybody wants to live in only a select few neighborhoods in the city where they won’t be raped, robbed, or executed.

user Blacks only live in small ghettos that are sectioned off form other people in the city. Those areas are in the majority of cities small and contained.

>Washington DC: 47.7% black, schools are 67% black
>Pittsburgh: 26% black, schools are 53% black
>Philadelphia: 42% black, schools are 66+% black(as of 2006)

Etc.

No, you misunderstand why housing is expensive. Housing is expensive because a large number of people wish to live within a specific zip code which has a limited amount of supply. The housing supply is determined by existing homeowners who determine if they build new units through their money and if other people can do so through their votes in the city government. More often than not, they vote for strict restrictions on development because it makes their properties more expensive, due to supply being capped.

In California this dynamic is extremely notable because of Prop 13, the statewide cap on property taxes which allows homeowners to lock in their property tax at 1% of the valuation of the year they bought it. This leads to somebody's mom paying $5,000/yr on a $2,000,000 home while new homeowners pay $20,000 for a similar house. Likewise California also has bans on San Francisco Bay development, which has already been used to kill at least three projects (Bair Island, Cargill Flats, Baylands) which would have added over 60,000 units to the market each.

Segregating people by race wouldn't affect this much, especially when blacks have already been pushed out by high rents. In fact, in the most extreme cases (again California) there are so few new units on the market virtually nobody can afford housing unless you are given a house from your parents to refinance (and extract rent from) to finance a new purchase. Much like the board game Monopoly. Such is how the rich get richer, and everyone else poorer.

This.

Why does everyone always dumb down what is a more complicated issue of economics to race?

I don’t think you get what I’m getting at though. Say for example in NYC there was a neighborhood where only Italians were allowed to live. You could have poor, middle class, and upper class Italians all living in the same neighborhood helping each other out if needed but living in fancied or dirtier apartments depending on their income

Not him but you make it sound as is being Italian means that the rich will decide to live in a neighborhood beneath what they can afford. I know I'd rather live in a nicer neighborhood that isn't within my ethnicity than live in a poorer one that matches my own.

Besides, pretty much any sort of law that has been enforced to keep ethnicity separate has resulted in one ethnicity getting a tremendously short end of the straw. Just take a look at separate but equal in the US. Resources for Black Americans were severely underfunded compared to their white counterparts despite the claim of "equal".

Veeky Forums would be so much better if people would at least attempt to show they have done some research on the topic instead of showing how little they know or thought about it.

Man 4,000 square feet is a pretty damn big house, it probably occupies an entire floor. In fact looking at the floor count and area of the building it's definitely an entire floor. That place is obviously an extreme luxury apartment and hardly the norm even for NYC.

Yes, NYC apartments are still ludicrously overpriced, but that's hardly the best example.

>Say for example in NYC there was a neighborhood where only Italians were allowed to live.

Then every catholic in existence would claim to be Italian and the NY archdiocese would quickly become the arbiter for what is and what is not white based upon catholic baptism and confirmation certificates they print for their internal use. This was extremely common in the southwest until discrimination was banned. The most prominent example is former Los Angeles Mayor (and California Gubernatorial candidate) Tony Villar, whose hispanic parents chose Italian names so they could use white facilities. He now goes by Antonio Villaraigosa so he can claim to be hispanic and get privilege points. LA's current mayor, Eric Garcetti, is also a hispanic with an Italian surname for the same reasons.

Also the area would probably get much browner much faster because suddenly everyone there could make a huge amount of money off illegal Mexican/hispanic immigration. Meanwhile the church would have a bonafide financial reason to block out all the normal banks for their own Italian banks. It'd become a slum, exactly what Italian districts were before they were opened up to regular people (and investors) through desegregation.

Excellent posts user.

That’s not the point though. With $40m you could literally hire private mercenaries to take over a Caribbean island and have the place to yourself

>Veeky Forums

This is a Veeky Forums thread in name only

That’s a moot point. I’m saying Mestizo Hispanics would be able to have their own neighborhlood if they wanted, White Hispanics could have their own neighborhood, or combine if they want, etc. for each ethnic group.

Highland Park, NJ is actually a good example of this. They are browner today but previously it was a town that was segregated into Orthodox Jews and Secular Jews, living in peace but helping each other. This actually happened until the 90s so It’s actually pretty crazy to think about how HUD and other housing associations didn’t say anything about it but it certainly worked for them

And? You could buy plenty of land in the US with forty million.

OP made it a bit too obvious.

for a second i thought that was the price of the entire building
jesus christ

In that case DNA testing would be the only way to figure it out, but even then that is fraught with problems because nearly all latinos have some bit of Spanish blood, which means they probably have some tiny bit of Italian DNA in them. Somewhere in a lab someone has to draw a line and this is where the vatican's army of lawyers and diplomats are used, just as they were during the pedo scandals. More likely than not they'd successfully argue that everything except purebloods are "Italian" and thus can live in their neighborhoods.

Likewise, the Vatican can afford to run their own testing because they own their own labs through all the hospitals they own. They also own a huge amount of doctors through the universities and schools they operate too. If they all work together they can quickly break the entire system down, which was one of the reasons why segregation was completely defunct (outside of nigger containment, a thing prisons and high rents can also effectively do) by the 1930s. In the modern day the catholic church continues to break it down through their sponsorship of illegal immigrants.

golly gee I wonder who could be behind these posts...

You'd have to pay three times as much for janitorial services in all those fancy towers.
