How much protein should I aim for a day Veeky Forums? I'm 5'10" 175lbs and I'm fairly new to lifting, some sites say 1 gram of protein per lb of bodyweight and some say that since I'm not an elite lifter that I only need 0.4 grams per lb of bodyweight

which is it?

You need 0.5 g of protein per pound of bodyweight

.8x your body weight

all of it

You won't get a clear answer for several reasons.

>bioscience
>protein fiends
>conflicting research
>people giving you values instead of ranges
>general stupidity

Best advice I can give you is trying to aim for at least 0.5 g/lbs body weight and adjust from there. If you don't feel like you're getting stronger after a few weeks you can increase it.

There's nothing actually wrong with eating more though.

1 gram per lb is a meme and I ask to find my a peer reviewed study confirming it.

General scientific consensus is roughly 0.5 to 0.65.

I just go 25%

>tfw can only afford .5 g per lb

This

1g of protein per pound of lean body mass at your goal weight, not current.

For most people this will be around .8g per pound of bodyweight.

How do people even get to 1 gram per lb without going over calorie intake?

1g per lb at 200lbs is just 800 calories. not hard.

U wot? 200 g of protein with only 800 calories of food? How

Lean chicken comes close
Whey definitely
Tuna can do it, but don't eat too much
other low fat fish without a lot of mercury

if you can no longer enjoy the smell of your own farts you are eating too much protein

Try doing that as a poorfag and having to get that from pasta and peanut butter

Exactly my point, I can't afford lean chicken or whey

Mercury is a meme. Unless you eat tuna all day every day

>can't afford whey
where do you live?

GÆZ! I've read that gluten protein, Seitan, have ~75g's protein per 100g! Why are we not funding this?! Do we have a better go-to source of protein?

Ontario canada

you need 2g per kilo you weigh

i weigh 70kg so i should be hitting 140g a day. thats 10 raw eggs.

i get 60g from protein shakes, im still quite skinny
