I'm glad I missed the hipster era. I came up in the hardcore scene on the east coast in the mid to late 00's. One of my buddies said he went to a show like a year or two ago at a spot we used to play gigs at and that the kids were all wearing scarfs and drinking craft beers.

Not many guys can go from crossdressing drug addict to Big Guy and still perform as well (arguably better than) he did 10 years ago. I'm not a huge fan of NIN's more recent albums but god damn they're still one of the best performing bands around.

I'm kinda jealous, my friends never really went off the deep end musically like I did. I had one good buddy in high school that was into very weird music with me but we went separate ways in college.

I was in high school between 2007-2011 so I was really getting into music when indie music was peaking. I realized yesterday that I was pretty much a hipster version of a neckbeard. Bad times.

I spend a fair amount of time on /mu/, almost exclusively to browse /gg/. They think being built looks silly when holding a guitar. They have no problem with someone being lean and healthy, just not big. They think that they should be spending their time becoming better at their instruments and creating music with their band, not wasting time in the gym.
But this is not everybody. For each person crying about muscles, there is someone else calling them a fatass.

This argument doesn't hold water because you can get big and strong spending 1.5 hours in a gym 3 days per week. A lot of musicians spend more time than that drunk, high or fucking someone's girlfriend. Now you could say that is 'inspiration for their artistic side, maaaan' or some shit like that but then why isn't getting fit, explorating your limits and working hard?

It's bullshit: there's one reason why /mu/ and people like that don't like it; it's because they're scrawny hipsters and dislike anything masculine or that goes against their snowflake world views.
