I was looking at the modern looking 80 boulevard, great bike for the price just needed pipes. Stuck with my SV650 but interested in a metric cruiser again.

The SV just was not that comfortable on the highway.

riding a 250r I'll make the assumption that you are a more novice rider, have you done a defensive riding course? they are one of the best things I can recommend to any rider.

I kinda second the hyosung point except they can be super cheap. I got a 2013 650r for 1/2 the price of a ninja 650 from like 2004.

I had no problem except the transmission was a bit clunky. Sold it now and moved into better and faster things but I don't regret getting a 650 for the price of a 250, especially since it was learner approved and it was easy as fuck to take the limiter off it.

It's a crf 250 that I race on tracks, my road bike is a c50 boulevard 800
It's "slow" compared to crotch rockets but it's an 800 and it's gotten me across the country a couple times.. real comfortable ride.. once "raced" a Gallardo up a canyon road, we were hitting 35mph turns at 60-70 mph together and then he stepped on it and lost me

tell me about it, it was hard getting 5K for the dealer replaced brand new EFI GT650R after the last warranty replacement, didn't even have 300km on the clock!

best bike I've owned as been an SV650s, tied with GTR1400, though the GTR had the sad point of eating tyres at $300+ a hoop.

That and 40km/h in first gear and its still chugging, great for highways, not good for city riding.

Next up I would LOVE a Ural but 20K for a russian sidecar is stretching my budget when I could buy a nice Honda tourer or Suzuki cruiser for that cash with lots of change.

Depends entirely on your budget. If you are a dirt cheap student get a honda cb125. Slightly less cheap student any jap 250 will be great for learning. Ninja 250, cbr 250, they're all great.

If you have cash to blow you can go for the newer and more expensive learners like the kawasaki ninja 300 or the yamaha r3. If you are spending that sort of money though I would prefer to get an older ninja 650 or suzuki sv650. They're great and you won't need to upgrade until you're ready for and craving a 600cc i4 screamer.
