Don't feel so bad about yourself. You'll get there.

lol, are there seriously guys at the gym who can't bench 135 pounds?

*175lb, you forgot the bar

2pl8 is 220

Dislocated my should 5 weeks ago.
Tfw patience and recovery have allowed you to reclaim a plate on bench

I got to the Y. There's only about 20 guys that can rep out 225

the bar doesnt count dumbass

>failed the last rep of 3x5 70kg bench last two times
>tfw 6'6 lanklet general
>never gonna make it

2 pl8's on each side =180 lbs plus a bar = 225. This is the quintessential 2pl8 bench.

Yes I responded to b8.

>can bench 245 x5
>keep failing to bench 275 once

Going to try 250 x5 next time and see if I can do it. Really fucking disheartening. I just want to be as strong as Alan Thrall and Dom

i can only bench bar

>mfw did 105x3 for the first time today

it's probably mental at that point. just gotta keep at it and get more practice with weights closer to your theoretical max

hit lmao 2.pl8 for some doubles today. did i make it?

>hit 2pl8x5 for the first time around valentine's day
>realized i've made basically zero progress in a whole year

no, it's 225 dyel

What if I only have a standard barbell.
2pl8 = 200lbs?

standard barbell is like 10-15 pounds so do the math I guess.

Lo, I'm still working on 125. Should get it by the end of the week.

Same guys who wear basketball shorts LMAO

>

>when you finally get above 1pl8 so you aren't a prime target for gymbulling

what the fuck are y'all talking about
2pl8 is 80kg (not counting bar)
>inb4 amerifats convret me to retard-units

How to stop /wobbly/ when benching am just starting.
Lower weight and progress from there?

we talkin' 2pl8 for reps or 1rm

...pretty much any barbell is 45 lbs.
I have only seen 15 lb barbells at my current gym. Before that I have only seen 45s

Many (possibly even most) gyms do not use Olympic barbells.

>that random dude who just walks in and benches 3,25 plates for reps with no arch without a spotter or anything

>80kg
WeW lad

that is purely anecdotal, as is what I said.
I have only really ever lifted in gyms with OLY barbells. several gyms in the Canada, America, and the Netherlands
>pro-tip: if your gym does not have OLY barbells, you need to change gyms

Same here, having those shiny 45 lbs plates on each side will be so cool, gonna try on Wednesday. I think I'll be able to do at least 5 before deloading.

keep at it brehs.

Don't worry bench difficulty is proportional to the length of your arms and how you can leverage the weight, most people who brag about their bench are manlets.

Congrats buddy! You're gonna make it man!

been benching the bar m8s

> everyone on Veeky Forums pretends they didn't start with empty bar

If you do NoFap, you're a fucking idiot. There is no proof for any of it.
>Muh test spike after 7 days
It's so insignificant and also normalises the following day.
>muh dopamine
Stop being so weak.

The only thing they have right if NoPorn.

every gym I saw in Poland had exclusively oly barbells

>that guy at the gym that can't deadlift 5pl8

genetically weak lanklet coming up with excuses as to why he's weak

>that guy who just started

uuhhm..no? i literally was an korean mmo addicted kid who was skinny as fuck and the first time i went to the gym my friend made me do 5x5 with 65kg and i (barely) made it.

if you cant do 1 plate you must be a 5'0 girl or have disease or something

i mean its still January and theres all the new resolutioners and yet they all manage to bench 1plate+ and theres some Auschwitz looking arms on some of them

>The guy that measures his lifts in "plates" like an autist

Nah, he's mostly right (coming from a 5'10" maybe manlet). I have a decent bench, though I have disproportionately long arms for my height.
I have a 5'6" friend who's fairly weak but has a wide and thick shoulder girdle and thick rib cage and short arms and he has a fairly good bench despite being weak in general.
Makes me question how good my bench is.

Try being me
>265 bench 1rm
>can't rep 225 more than 2-3 times

I was playing with some 1rm calculators and it says that if I can bench 265x1 I should be able to do 245 for 4... can't even do 225 for that many. So I end up doing my working sets with like 205 and feel like a weak bitch

I fuckin hate barbell bench. Impossible to get stronger without a spotter or you'll die.

I hate depending on people.

Put less weight on, if you're unstable you're not doing it right.

Get your form down before you hurt yourself.

this

Same here, my 1RM is 185 right now, but my working set is 155.

That sounds about right if you're doing 155 for 5-7ish reps.

My bench max is 305 for 2.
I work 5 sets of 8 at 235 usually and that gases the fuck out of me.

135lbs is adding the bar... 1pl8 on each side is 45lbs + 45lbs + the 45lbs bar.

>Failed 100lbs bench three times and had to deload
Kill me

Do you think it's something to do with form? Maybe I cheated a little on my 265 max? I have long ass arms so maybe they just get tired repping out "heavy" weight like 225 but they're strong enough for a single max.

Wait a second....

I think it could have less to do with form and more to do with what your limiting factor on bench is. For me it's my triceps, they fatigue faster than my chest, and I use a relatively narrow grip for bench. You might notice your shoulders or triceps fatiguing before your chest, and that could help you determine how to train to overcome that difficulty.

For me it's different, I get better when the reprange gets higher like 8-12 reps is where I am pretty strong. I can rep 225 for 8 but my 1RM is still 265 like yours. Guess it has to do with technique because I cant realy handle such heavy weight as well.

Listen to this then:
I have a HUGE chest, everyone tells me so.
Weak, skinny almost nonexistent triceps
Regular shoulders, not boulders but not DYEL tier either

But on bench the first thing I feel fatiguing is my chest. What thee fuck m8.

Also after my working sets then maxing 265 yesterday, I took the 90's for a spin on the incline for 6 reps which is another PR. Fuck I love bulking.

My best friend benches 225 for 20, no bullshit. But his max is 305, ive seen him fail 315 multiple times. Yet my other buddy can bench 315 with ease but only rep 225 for 12ish. Bench is the most confusing fucking lift. I wonder what the different variables are here.

>going for 195 lbs, personal record, steadily getting toward 2pl8
>struggle on last set
>anonymous gymbro comes from out of nowhere and helps me rack it
>so ashamed that I never go back to that gym

Thanks though gymbro, wherever you are. I hope you're making siqq gains.

STOP TELLING ME TO GRIP FROM RINGS CAN'T YOU SEE I'M A DISPROPORTIONATE MANTLET?
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

>I have a HUGE chest, everyone tells me so.

>But on bench the first thing I feel fatiguing is my chest. What thee fuck m8.

Well that doesnt sound too far fetched, you are simply built in a way that your primary mover on the bench is your chest. Therefore your chest grows the most from flatbenching and also is the first muscle to fatigue. Either it is because of your proportions or technique that your chest does most of the work (which isnt a bad thing) but it is pretty clear that the way you are benching doesnt need as much triceps/shoulder involvement.

So while it might sound counterintuitive that your biggest muscle fatigues first the reason why the chest is the biggest is exactly because it gets worked the most on the bench for you.

That sounds really strange mate, no idea what it could be. Hard to get an idea from what you said. If you know any decently strong dudes at your gym maybe ask one of them for some pointers, or think about adjusting your training for more bench volume.

i do lmao2pl8 for reps

>you will never be Stephen Paea-mode

why live?

youtube.com/watch?v=kT5YHy0I9Ys

This is why I love Veeky Forums

>tfw stuck at 187x3 incline bench
Why am I so weak

>tfw you see a NYR get pinned under a 20kg bench

This.
Why is the standard "plate" the 45lbs one, if the most used are the 55lbs ones?

lol so most people at the gym

does one of them have much longer arms than the other?

if two guys both bench 315, but one has very long arms and one has short arms and is built to bench, the short armed guy will smash the long armed guy in a for-reps challenge

less ROM = less work = fatigue is less of a factor during high reps

compare this to 1rm, where fatigue is not a factor and you fail/succeed based on the maximal torque at the joints you can generate (which is still influenced by leverages, obviously - long armed guy had to work a lot harder for his 315)

there are some other factors too, less neurologically efficient lifters don't have a lot of distance between 1rm and reps

also cardio athletes who get into lifting can sometimes do some absolutely stupid reps with some percentage of their 1rm

im a beginner and i have huge trouble with the empty bar
is that normal?

depends. answer me this.

>gender
>age
>height
>weight

male 26yo 192cm 88kg

no

>that guy at the gym that can't bench 3 plates

almost normal if you've never exercised before
you'll make gains quickly when you're a beginner dont worry

Trying 1,5 pl8 x 5 next time i hit the gym. Wish me luck.

you'll make it lad
