If it's quad tendinitis, you need to give it some rest. If the inflammation is recent, use some ice to calm it down (and maybe ibuprofen if the pain is too big and limiting), and let it rest. Keep it immobile.
If the early stage of the inflammation has passed, you can use heat to help with relaxing and recoverying, eccentric-only squats, fish/krill oil, stretching, and resting. :)

I pointed out the conflict in your argument here: I understand that experience can be a good thing to look for when seeking advice, but just because you squat (as used in your example), doesn't mean you have all the knowledge at hand, and just because you don't squat doesn't mean you don't have a very technical and useful understanding of he movement.

So my rule of thumb is that if your hips shoot up, you're setting your hips up too low to begin with and that will pull you out of position. Stay with the current weight, and next time get a buddy to film you, or prop your camera up on a box, while lifting so we can take a look and diagnose the problem better.

Don't add more than 2.5kg at a time, you won't be able to. 2.5kg is the most you can add, but you'll rarely miss the rep.
