Fucking hate the "& Humanities" part of this board

Given consciousness comes from the nervous system and the body is really just a system to maintain and protect it, I'd say we are a mind with a body.

The mind is a function of the body, this is a false dichotomy

we are penis with 5 senses

we are minute fragents of one "mind" that guides the universe and our body is the pre-requisite for the meta-experience the mind craves

fag

Body can live without a mind. A mind cannot live without a body.

>The mind is a function of the body

Then what is your answer to the hard problem?

proofs?

ummm.. it's the other way sweety. xx

We are humans trapped within our own heads.

Is a single-celled organism a body, a mind, or both?

Veeky Forums has trapped everyone inside the internets?

Each of us is a body trapped within the collective mind of Veeky Forums.

Humans are really just brains piloting evangelions tgat are approximately 6 feet tall

To fuck your mom desu

Do we have our mind on our money or our money on our mind?

...

You are a mind enslaved by your body

This is a farce question to distract from what we truly are, We are a Spirit/Soul that has been borne into this world and given a body and mind.

we don't really understand how qualia works, or how matter does.

they may as well both be caused by another thing.

I dunno

you are a little soul carrying a corpse

Perception and experience are a function of the mind, an emergent process that comes out of our highly intricate brains. It helps us shape the world around a central catalyst through which we can analyse our surroundings better

a body with a mind

Why are you treating them as separate?

a mind can survive without a body if it has a soul. But a corpse can only exist without a mind. And our bodies are just catalysts.

if you are going to wax philosophical
please explain to me why
mind with body
and
body with mind
aren't equivalent phrases?

we are both and neither
in constant state of flux, when at our most focused, aware, our most clear and sober our mind uses the body.
When are are emotional, addicted, frustrated, stressed or distracted our bodies consult the mind when it needs to.

A body and the mind is part of it

>we are both and neither
pathetic

Honestly, we aren't minds at all. We are just a body with the ability to pay attention, e.g consciousness.

holding yourself to bifurcation
when things are so much more complex that an either/or bullshit

>when things are so much more complex
gradients don't exist. There are only definitions. Hence, either/or.

Kinda how we can know which slit light passed through, right? Get outta here

>Then what is your answer to the hard problem?

The mechanics of change is where phenomenological experience and physical existence are unified. Our phenomenological experience consists of two reference frames of moment and time described as Being and Doing in mindfulness-based cognitive psychology. Being is superficially "being in the present," and is cultivated by mindfulness meditation. In this mode, only a singular, ever-present moment is experienced, and instantaneous change in this moment. Past and present are not experienced, as is one's inner monologue. Doing is the mode of thinking, anticipating, and remembering we are more familiar with. In this mode a linear dimension of time is experienced, consisting of many infinitesimal moments, and what is experienced is cumulative change over time.

This is very similar a film shown on a screen as opposed to a strip of film. These two modes lead to seemingly contradictory implications. The philosophical view that only the present exists comes from inspecting the Being mode, as are concepts such as the illusion of the self (as the story of the self, one's inner narrative is not experienced during mindfulness meditation.) The Doing mode implies that all moments are equally real, and that the self is the most real of all things (I think, therefore I am.) These are not in contradiction just as a strip of film isn't any more real than the picture on the screen.

The instantaneous and cumulative is explored in calculus, the mathematical study of change, with integrals and derivatives, and the fundamental theorem of calculus shows how they are correlated inverse processes. The development of calculus was nothing less than the formalization of Taoist philosophy in mathematical form; the Tao is the way things come together, while continuing to change, the process of reality itself. Taoist metaphysics states that change is the fundamental nature of all things, it doesn't contradict materialism but includes it.

What you call the mind is caused by chemical processes in the brain. So the latter obviously, but because our brains are so heavily developed we're smart enough to lie to ourselves and more importantly that we need to lie to ourselves about what we are so we think that we're the former.

Just two lost souls swimming in a fish boooowl

We are a spirit with a body.

we are a body with a soul

Is 5 3+2 or is it 2+3?

The answer is "yes".

Am I a man or a muppet?

We are a body.

fpbp

You're a soul that has taken on a body and mind like clothing and is manifested throughout them as consciousness

you're a network running on a system

But the mind is part of the soul.
