It was Constantine who made Orthodox Christianity to begin with. Before him there were hundreds of sects which historians call "Christian" (eusebius list at least 80) many of which did indeed venerate Mary/Sophia. If not all of them. You are essentially saying before Christianity existed (remember biblical canon was put together by Constantine) Christians did X, which is stupid.
