Yeah, especially the plate loaded variety is great. It allows you to do the few exercises that are simply better or at least much simpler with a cable at a low price.

Yeah, the underside of my forearm exploded with these. Upper side is still scrawny though, it looks a bit comical now. I also did reverse wrist curls, but I must have done something wrong.

pushdown =! pulldown

You're thinking of a similar but different exercise. For triceps you stand closer and make it a push, hence pushdown.

For back like that, you stand farther away and make it a pull.
