Fit Careers

What do you guys do for a living in order to keep up with your fitness lifestyle? Also does your work fuck up your gains?

electrician

helps gains

At the moment I drive a forklift and trade some stocks on the side. I really want to go to uni though. I just dont know what to study.

I work at costco and its crushing my soul. Was thinking about going to trade school for HVAC.

chef
moving on my feet all day

Work for a college, hate myself for helping kids get in debt for useless degrees. Quitting when the next project is done next month.

>Also does your work fuck up your gains?

Depression is a hell of a drug.

I'm a retail manager it's alright, 80% on my feet 20% desk. Leaves me lots of energy to work out, but sometimes the hours are late or early which can fuck with my sleep.

Physiotherapist. Veeky Forums is as Veeky Forums does.

Elevator union here.
Lift 100+lbs gears/spools/cables/tools etc. on a regular basis
Tons of body-weight stuff

Go to trade school user

Thinking about HVAC or welding. My bro is quitting his restaurant manager job and working on commercial chillers. I hate office work so goddamn much.

Policing.

Just started a new job a month ago in finance and spend 12-13 hrs a day in front of the screen.

I love the work itself but the hours are grueling and it has had a terrible affect on my gym time. I've been going only once a week during the week and then again on the weekends, whereas before I used to go 4-5 times a week.

Not really sure what to do because the hours are unlikely to change for the next few years... I might have to start going to gym on my lunch break but that's not ideal since I'd rather socialise with my coworkers.

Diatician. Sounds great but it's 100% desk, so I have to work harder to stay active. I bike to work, walk around and eat my lunch, and take breaks to leave my desk for a while. Hours are nice, and so is the gym attached to the building.

>My future
Give me some insight on what it'll be like to be a physiotherapist.

What do you do? I was thinking about leaving my restaurant job and getting a office job. Maybe admin, or if I go through training a I could get into a entry lvl HR assistant job, or maybe an underwriter.

Idk man I just want to leave this job. All the hs kids are making me crazy and all the part time college kids are making me depressed.

Depends, you in US or AUS?

I want to kick her teeth in so bad

Hmmm, maybe you might like office life. A lot of people do. For me, to sit down and fuck with spreadsheets and cognos reports, I have to be hopped up on caffeine and sneak in snus and other forms of nicotine. One of my friends works in accounting and really likes it. Don't base your aspirations on my frustrations, I hate the life I have because I've ignored every signal that it wasn't right for me.

Military. Bad for gains.
>forced cardio
>long hours
>high stress
>chow hall food is ok for gains but tastes like shit and you're limited on meat
>MREs are terrible for you

I'm a student, so I'm constantly in debt from spending all my money on sips.

I'm in the Army in training. Doesn't really help my gains, the PT we do in the morning is all bodyweight and usually pretty light, or it's a little bit of cardio which isn't bad. There's a lot of walking during the day which ups my calorie intake.

On post there's easy access to gyms and tracks to run on and really nice hiking trails up through the mountains, so that's a pretty sweet benefit. The Army might not actively improve my gains, but they do facilitate them and reward me for them.

Well as of now I am an Accounting major, but I hate it. I should be done with my degree, but I failed/dropped a few classes, so I'm very behind.

I'm doing poorly in my classes right now. I just want to take a break from school and also leave my server job. I've talked to Veeky Forums and they also have mixed feelings on working in a office setting, but I still feel like its better than working in a restaurant. The problem is that I'm too scared to move on and try bigger jobs. I feel like working on a office is more serious and intimidating.

Idk man. I'm just trying to fix my life. I feel so pathetic. I'm 23 and I still have no clue what I want to do with my life.

Previous guy that mentioned the Army.

Go join the Army. It's a shitty career but you can take your GI Bill after your 2 year contract and just get paid to go back to school. You can finish up your degree and start a new one in something you have more interest in. Depending on which Army job you take, you might be able to get credits for your training. I'm going to end up with ~70 credits when I'm done with my training.

Plus having free medical/dental/optometry for a few years is a nice way to ensure your body gets some of the maintenance it needs. I'm getting all sorts of dental work done by competent dentists who are pretty liberal with their numbing agents, and this shit is saving me literally thousands of dollars.

Try Air Force PT. We played fucking duck, duck goose the other day for a squadron session. I swear somehow we were being punished.

>tfw when i wanted to do ROTC in college but I can't join the military because of eczema and asthma
Office life it is for me then

Hopefully going to college because I'm managed to get my high school diploma somehow. A nice enough college too. Gonna be expensive but mommies gonna pay for it.

If things fall thru I'll go to the trade union though.

I was thinking about this but I don't want to worry about shit pay and getting hit by cars on the highway and not being able to use steroids free of worry

Army is a good deal. When I have kids I'm going to make sure they score on the avsab and work into SF. I couldn't join the army unfortunately cuz of asthma.

event setup/support
usually 6-8 hour shifts, mostly standing and walking. some lifting and carrying, but nothing that leaves me too fatigued to perform in the gym
plus, improving in the gym translates well over to durability over harder shifts

Hows the pay for that kind if work?

>living your failed dreams out through your children

don't be that kind of dad

Hematologist/Oncologist

Too busy to eat, fucks with gains like mad but stay lean all year.

I'm in teaching, but I started doing bicycle deliveries in the evenings, on the weekends, and over the summer. The riding is nice exercise, and the money helps me stay motivated to do it when I otherwise wouldn't feel like exercising.

What do you teach?

>be 22, work as a college teacher in a small private college
>start working out
>be 25
>fit, students get awkwardly close at times but nothing I can't brush off
>still loves teaching but want to switch to a more fitter job
I've been wanting to work as a fireman. Thinking of getting started as a volunteer. Is it too late to make a career of this?

Definitely not too late.

Software.

I lift and do judo to stay healthy since I sit at a desk all day

NEET

Firey here, 25 is young for this job. You have plenty of time mate.

Work fucks up my gains big time. 12 hours a day + 1 hour commute each way. I do home gym becuase of it.

Canada...

Bruh im in a similar situation i work 8hrs standard but when projects kick of easily goes to 10hrs and 1.5hr commute to and from work. Homegym is bliss though.

Student/Intern in corporate IT. It's great. Allows me to be Veeky Forums (no strict dresscodes) and Veeky Forums (good working conditions -> time to work out) at the same time.

Court transcriptionist, work from home.

Desk job so no good for fitness. But my building has a gym, I usually go during lunch break.

Chill as fuck job tbqh.

Get that nasty bitch out my face. She's breaking my heart being a retard.

I have engineering degree in computer science but I don't do anything with it at the moment

Do it, man, with no regrets. Look into scholarships if you're in 4th world country without free education. If not possible, then try UK for example. You can work and study there. I know someone who does that.

Brazilian Armu (PELOPES).
It's like having a free gym membership except sometimes you have to go on for a few weeks with shit food. Pay is low too so not easy to keep up with the price of supplements that are already above average here.
I will go into reserve next year and get a job in the private sector because even though I love this life, I don't want to be poor all my life.

That's okay. The Canadian and Aus laws are comparable, so I'll just give you as much advice as I can. Once you get done with your degree, you can go to work in public or private hospitals or private clinics. I wouldn't recommend starting your own clinic until you've had at least five or six years working experience, and you've gotten a good client base through community level work.

>Public Hospitals:
Very high turnover, less intense than private. You won't get to know your patients very well unless you work in a rehab stream, which is basically the slowest work you're going to get as a PT. Expect to work alongside nurses, shortstaffed teams, run around multiple wards with your hair on fire, start work early, finish work late, and have the most fun in your lift. Stress on musc, cardio, neuro, basically you've got to be top notch to work public and keep your head above water.

>Private Hospitals
Slower turnover, generally nicer than public hospitals with a better nurse to client ratio. They have higher standards tho, and you can spend a little more time taking care of patients before they have to leave. The teams are generally a lot more focused, I've had a much more intense time of working in private settings than I have public. Maybe just because the working cultures in different hospitals are that disparate, idk. The knowledge you need will depend on the department in which you work, but expect plenty of musc, cardio, and a little neuro.

>Clinic
Private street and center-based clinics are a great place to work if you absolutely know you're going to work for yourself. There's very little oversight, but you're reporting directly to the person who owns the clinic so there's a lot of pressure on you to not fuck up. You'll build great relationships with your clients and the work is mostly musculoskeletal, chronic injuries, and the odd stroke that comes in every now and then. know your spinal physio, and you'll be okay.

Hope this helps!

My manager is constantly working like 14 hour shifts, its crazy. Good guy tho

I don't know either. I'm just going for mathematics. It helps in all aspects of life just like exercise does and you can get some pretty steady jobs with it. Just something to fall back on, while I pursue my other interests, which currently don't make me money.

Everyone I know that became a chef ended up getting fat. Is that common for that career?

Field Services Engineer for a bunch of oil and gas companies. Great money.

Terrible for my gains though. In the middle east I've worked for companies that put me through 60-80 hour work weeks on a fairly regular work week.

Plus traveling is just tiring and sometimes the places I go have jack shit in terms of workout gear.

Good news is once I get a place to workout I go religiously. Especially if it's in the compound where I work.

You must live on base. Once you move out and start getting BAH and BAS, you're going to be able to buy and eat whatever you want. Great for gains if you get a roommate because you can spend your extra money on food.

Depending on where you live and if you able to move, you might want to look more into trade school because welding is going to blow up in jobs soon. In Florida for example, I can go to HCC (Hillsborough Community College), pass an 11 month course and walk out the day of graduation with a job.

>australia
>private hospitals
>better nurse to patient ratios
in what fucking magic world is this

Chemical Engineering graduate with Engineering job, long hours £27k a year ($33.5k)

Lots of walking about the Plant, up and down steps and so on.

That's what I did in minnesota. Walked out of school into a 21$ an hour entry level job. It's an okay field.

Just my experiences, is all. There are plenty of private hospital networks around, and in those I've generally seen nurse to patient ratios as high as 1:4, which is pretty nuts for something as chill as an ortho or stroke ward. Granted, I did do a lot of work in critical care units, which may have had something to do with it. What are things like where you're from?

currently studying engineering
It's good, gives me a lot of time to just sit down and eat tons of chicken while studying
I don't know how it'll be when im actually working though

>hate myself for helping kids get in debt for useless degrees
I work in a college too, I don't know why this concerns you. People are always going to get 'useless' degrees, even in 'useful' fields because theres always a large amount of slackers who go to college to fuck about. But those kind of asshats bring the most money in for the college so the actually decent students who make the most of their degrees can actually go. It's like the people who complain about the NYR's at gyms even though they're the gyms main source of income and keep the business going for so cheap.

Nice, I'm slightly disappointed that Florida has one of the lower paid welders. I've been thinking of moving to Alaska and after I finish my schooling here in Florida. Alaska and Hawaii have the highest average paid welders of +30 an hour iirc, and Alaska has lax gun laws like Florida.

Software Engineer in Finance.

> 35 hour work week.
> Company gym.
> Canteen has a focus on healthy food.

There's no excuse when you live in Scandinavia.

Norwegian army, fucks with gains but when i make around 60k$ a year and 400$/month in living expenses it worth it.
cant wait for some war to being, will pump my paycheck to like 110k$ and im just a specialist.

Just join one of the unions if travelling isn't an issue. Most of them still have pensions and pay pretty damn well. Look into the millwrights

Risk Analyst/Data Scientist

Gym is on the same block as my office so it's all good

Nice what branch? I left hæren and work teaching elementary school now. Starting uni this autumn, but dunno what yet.

60k$ dollar in norway is barely enough for a few pizza each week

a pizza is like 50$ in oslo

Run an eBay store, spend most of the day on my feet and moving shut around so it's not so bad

Massage Therapist, had mad forearms gains initially but now, i work from thursday night, to friday and saturday morning, and basically eat and immediately head to bed when i get home because i have no energy to do anything else, rest of the week is chill tho.

My country is a western european one and I only earn 16000 per year
Kill me

all theese miscreants and noone is a drug dealer?

Close shifts at McDonalds..
I eat all the leftover steak/chicken breast and fuck around for most of my shift, because it's a quieter store.
It's not where I want to be, but it's comfortable and gives me an income.

UPS Preloader.

It's what started getting me Veeky Forums in the first place.

>mfw will have to tough it out in call center to afford my education so I could finish my BS in AMT so I could go to law school and pass my bar exams so I could be an NBI agent.

fuck me

Software developer
Helps gains because I get money
Hurts gains because I'm sitting all day and get stiff

selling what? was it easy to get into building up an eBay store?

It's meh. I make about $65k after taxes, but because I'm with a clinic I get great health insurance.

I work as a deliveroo rider - Get paid and cycle my arse off when I'm working. Good for me because I make like £40 for every 15 miles I cycle. Works as a good incentive and helps keep the bf % low.

Bakery Supervisor, usually my working shift starts at 5.30am and 8-10 hour shifts. I genuinely love my job, fairly well played, pension scheme, cycle to work, career progression.

The job itself is fairly fit minded, on my feet all day, carrying bags of flour and ingredients plus I get dem social gains. 10/10.

Work in a kitchen cooking hot stuff. Messes a bit as the hours are variable and the work itself burns a fair few more calories off than sitting at a desk would. On the other hand, it's nice to be on the move.

do you get free food breh?

>1 more year until E6 and moving out

Soon

Yes lad, a sneaky cheat day is well stocked from my job.

artillery, best and only job i've ever had.

im so faar up north that you are lucky if you find fast food places, im paying 170$ for the chow hall, which actually is pretty good but there is only 1 alternative for dinner and its often fried fish.

fucking hell, spain?

Army doesn't have competent dentists bro.

i work as a physical therapist in a hospital. i'm constantly up and down flights of stairs (i refuse to use the elevator unless i have to transport a patient elsewhere in the hospital), and i laugh at normies with their fitbit step counters. my job isn't exactly hard labor, but it's definitely physical. the only thing that fucks up my gains are the hours, but i still get my lifting in.

Disregard this. Do you want to be a geopolitical chess piece for some psychopath?

The best jobs for gains are steady, predictable jobs with set hours. If they also have some light physical activity that keeps you from being sedentary but doesn't exhaust or overstrain you that also helps.
I work in lands with my local government, and I work 8:30-4:30, Monday to Friday, with breaks and lunch at my own discretion (so I eat at the same time every day, and while eating at the same time every day isn't that important for gains, strictly speaking, habit leads to consistency and consistency helps gains).
I spend about half my week in the office and half out checking pieces of land in question. I do a fair bit of hiking in wilderness, and some snowmobiling and ATVing. It's a fun job, I like it, and I'd say it's helpful for my fitness overall.

Pilot, USAF.

Military life is GOAT for gains as long as you keep your drinking in check.

I fell for the med school meme.
It's time consuming but I still work out daily

its common to love food as a chef

Lol found the manlet

Thanks for your service tho

I got a buddy that runs his own catering business and he's fucking jacked. He just counts calories and makes it fit his macros.

uni student, studying to become a paramedic, also working part time as a moving guy
pay is shit but the work is kind of fun

I'm 6'1" and I'm average among pilots. That stereotype is only true for Navy jocks.

have you considered that your perspective on things is abnormally self interested?

maybe the person you're responding to wishes he could help these lesser humans to not waste their resources

I WANT THAT JOB

Okay one question, not meant to be offensive, but why are so many cops unfit? I swear to God I swear to God so many I see are just... fat.

Soccer Referee

God I hate it so much
