This is true if you want a balanced physique. Most people don't: they want disproportionate chest, bis and delts.

Plus; a lot of lifters, especially the ones that started on Veeky Forums, were sedentary. They need assistance work to balance out some stuff. For example: leg curls and crunches for APT or rear delt flyes and external rotations for rotator cuff balance.

As Israetel put it: when you start out you need isolation work to balance out your physique. The more optimized you become for whatever you want to do - the more you can focus on only the basics. You essentially start out at the wide bottom of the pyramid and work your way up to the narrow top.
