I do something I call the trap dance. What you do is grab some dumbells you can't do anything with. (For me it's two 80lb dumbells) and walk around the room until you almost fucking can't safely. That's all I do for traps. May be autist
I unironically stand in front of a preacher curl machine (Hammer Strength), and pull up on the handles. It looks weird, but it works, and hits the traps at a great angle.

I prefer not to do them because any heavy back movement involves the traps and I'd rather not waste time doing an accessory that doesn't have a benefit

I do dumbell shrugs to warm up, then i do shrugs in front and behind the back in the smith machine, thats the only thing that damn machine is good for

Shugs are probably one of the worst exercises you can do. It's an isolation exercise with a very limited ROM on the muscle it works.

If you are not shrugging more than you deadlift, then you are wasting your time. Therefore dumbbell shrugs are retarded simply because you can't get heavy enough dumbbells.
Also this, although I would say a hex bar is slightly better because the raised handles make it easier to lift (unless your trap bar has raised handles too).

The best way to feel my traps is actually doing shrugs with big ass gasoline type cans, I usually do like 15 and then without dropping them I do a farmer walk till I feel like dying. cans kinda feel better in my hands than dumbells
