The Treaty of Versailles was the first major international treaty to be written in English, before that it was always French. Even as late as 1947 some UN documents were written exclusively in French. French even still remains the lingua franca in sports.

Rome would be preeminent for about 1000 years, and longer when we consider their immense cultural legacy in Europe, particularly through the Catholic Church which is often considered the successor of Western Rome.

Realistically America will never match the influence of Rome on human history.
