Are weight lifting shoes legit or are they just a dumb overpriced meme?

Are weight lifting shoes legit or are they just a dumb overpriced meme?

Depends.

Just lift bare foot and have a minimalist style running shoe

They're crap. It's just a hard soled shoe that costs more. Buy some Chucks and get the exact same result for under $100.

essential for weightlifting

for just squatting, it depends on proportions

Unless you have been powerlifting for one year AND plan on entering a competition don't buy them. Mine sit in the corner as soon as I realized aesthetics > Powermeme

Just get these

I lift in adidas adipures, best flat shoe for liftan m8

If you need to ask then you dont need a pair

Are powerlifts 3 as good as 2? Ive been asking for a while but no replies. Pls respond.

well if you do weightlifting they are not
help on squats too

If you're going to specialise in powerlifting and compete than yes. They are essential.

If you're just going to focus on aesthetics only once done with your linear progression than not so much.

I prefer Adidas Powerlifts to the overpriced shit like Adipowers and Nike Romelos etc.

get power perfects
they're about the same price

Learn the basics of lifting, a.k.a lift on your bare feet. If you can do that everything will be easy

Power Perfect IIs are the best cheap shoe.

Romaleos are my favorite shoe (the 2s) and you can find them cheap as fuck since the 3s came out. The Nikes have a higher heel than the adidas shoes besides the Leistung. For squatting it may not matter, but in the snatch and clean a higher heel can mean the weight pulls you forward and messes your balance a little bit.

I see. Someone gave me a pair of 3s as a present, thats why i am asking

Low bar fats detected

While we're on the topic of lifting shoes, how noticeable is the softness of Powerlifts compared to Adipowers?

At what weight do you feel the softness of the sole?

next time you squat put the smallest plates you can find at your gym under your heels and see how your squat depth feels. plates are fine to some degree but at heavy weights they can be dangerous and not stable and you are risking injury.

wl shoes are good if you have shit ankle mobility or if you are doing oly lifts/squatting a lot. not only will they help you achieve greater depth but they feel like you have your feet placed in cement and are really stable. if you decide to buy them buy proper ones. pp2 being the cheapest decent entry shoe that will last you pretty much forever. people have squatted over 300 kg in them. those pl2/3 are shit because the sole compresses at very low weights.

I like mine, feels good man.

If you don't have sexy slender feet, chucks don't fit right. Very uncomfortable for my peasant hoofs.

I bough the meme octo wreslting shoes to lift in. Tbh I love them. I wrestled for years so I am used to the but they are what you want. Super ankle support, cushiony on the sides and flat. Would buy again. Other than that use just running shoes.

>buy lifting shoes
>now my height is 6'0"
I should wear mine all day

Gee I don't know man.

Shoes are great for low bar! I reckon these are just squat plebs

Should I use my Adipowers to deadlift? What about Sumo?

Rippetoe says to use them

Try Vans instead then

idk man ask this 16 year old who lifts more than you what he thinks about olympic shoes

>doesn't know that humans are able to dorsiflex the ankle up to 40 degrees
alright, subhuman.

>Adipowers, Romaleos
>overpriced shit

You don't know what you're talking about

I squat high bar in flat shoes, do your fucking stretches and work on your squats.

I use lifting slippers

Feel like a choade bringing 3 pairs of shoes to the gym but.....

Feels good man

now post video of your form

Do a test and if you can squat deeply without your back rounding you don't need them but if you're tall and have long femurs then you probably do need them, also having a narrow stance makes them more necessary.

This guy gets it

>gymcels don't realize that there are lifts outside of their squats and deadlifts

what did he mean by this?

No idea on lifting shoes specifically, but I know that plenty of studies have concluded that running shoes have no major benefit and are basically a rip-off.

Yet plenty of people, from young and fit runners, through to old bastards jogging their way to a heart attack, will tell you that you NEED running shoes or you'll cause damage.

They're talking utter shit and believing a myth.

I'm not one for conspiracy theories, so won't state that running shoes were invented by companies specifically to trick people into spending more money, but the myth is certainly benefiting them massively.

>Manlet stilettos

Ill get you for this you fucker

They change your leverages in the squat. Generally good if you have bad ankle mobility but will also HELP with getting deeper in the squat and like user said above are needed for weightlifting

What's the best shoe or shoes for running then? Or rather walking around with the option for running

It depends, try the plates trick and see. They haven't helped my back squat, but have allowed me to front squat.

Front squatting is the only thing that increases my back squat so they have, indirectly, helped tremendously.

Powerlifts compress at ridiculously low weights, not a good shoe and a complete waste of money.

i use them, they're totally necessary and not a 'meme' or whatever
trust me, i'm far stronger and a better lifter than everyone else in here judging by the standard ive gleamed from the short time ive been here, if you dont weightlift they're still the optimal shoe

THis user knows whats up. Samba and Campus are also excellent for this purpose. No fancy sole, flat insert, light weight, works well.

So are Vans or Chucks still the goto gym shoe for the avg fitizen?

Been doing yoga for 3 years, am slav so I squat atg no problem but when I slavsquat I put my toes out at wide angles which is not optimal for moving weight and feels dangerous on the knee. How 2 improve ankle mobility??

If you are after aethetics.
You will be squatting high bar.
It is much easier for bbers to buy wl shoes than work on ankle mobility.

I've been looking around, how much do those 727s cost from where you got them?

>wear air max track shoes to gym one day
>try squatting
>blowout soon fellow lifters
>when?
>right now!

You fell for the poverty powerlift shoe meme.

It's ok, I did too.

Bought adipowers and never looked back.

are you saying the adipowers arent for slender feet? Because they are

>tfw no 727s

Just got this baby from uk. Luckily the size fit or ill have to sell it.
Gonna pop the cherry for my first oly shoes today.

Just recently got a pair of adipowers. I never had any issue with mobility in my back squat, so in terms of positioning they haven't been a huge change for that.
But they're an enormous help for cleans, snatch, front squats, and they feel immensely more stable in squatting all around than the flat shoes I was using before.

pp2 squad checking in
mah niggah

I have Nike Romaleos 3 and they are great. If you have great ankle mobility you can as well squat barefoot or in converse, but for most people they help.

>power manlets detected

They're great if your ankle mobility is shit. They're great even if your ankle mobility is amazing, really helps with atg.

based romaleos 2

I alternate between New Balance MT10v3, Merrell Trail Glove 3, and Altra Superior v2. The New Balance are probably my favorite. None of them are quite perfect for me because I have wide feet and long heel to ball measurement.
