Does the USA have a name?

Does the USA have a name?

United Statesia

America

It's United States of America (arrogantly so). Meanwhile in the south of its border is United States of Mexico.

The USA.

North Mexico

Well that’s what happens when you take some of the Mexican states

I love when South Americans get mad when the US calls itself "America". We get it. You're starved for attention.

South canada

The reason the United States calls itself “America” is because it was the first European colony in the Americas to become independent, so it did give them first choice as far as the name goes, although it sounds kinda of arrogant today given the number of countries in the hemisphere.

North but not so north America

This. People forget the United States is the oldest continuing government in the western hemisphere.

It must have been arrogant even the when it was just a strip of East Coast of North America becoming the country and they laid claim on the whole continent. Wasn't it even on texts of the founding fathers where they contrasted the island of Britain with continent of America? How a satellite couldn't be larger than what it orbits. Meanwhile it was a fucking strip of land between the Atlantic and Appalachians.

Native America

Sure, but the United States did essentially become a content sized nation in a relatively short period of time. The founders saw the fact that most of nearby land was sparsely populated and could easily be claimed.

Columbia

I don't think you grasp the irony in your own comment

>Columbia
This would be the poetic name for the US and the larger Americas, with an obvious origin.

Seriously United States of America has to be one of the worst names in history. Who thought it was a good idea?
Citizens have to call themselves "americans" because the country doesn't have a proper name

United Mexican States.

That tiny strip of land was already about twice the size of Britain.
Also the British colonies influence went all the way to the Mississippi at that point, it just wasn’t administered yet.

They want the positive association that the title "American" brings. What they don't understand is if they succeed in getting Americans to call themselves "United Statsians" and they take the title of "Americans" for themselves, the word will lose all positive association and just become a garbage word like "Mexican", "Latino" or "Latin American". Then the search for a new title to steal will begin again. It's sorta like we wuzzing but worse, because they only care about the feelings of the word itself.

The people who want the word "American" to be used for inhabitants of the continent as a whole (in Spanish this is already like this anyway) are usually the tankies and other groups who despise the US. Nothing to do with any positive association, it's just autism.

Columbia

It's just a language confusion because in Spanish and other Romance languages, "America" is a single continent, whereas in English it is divided in North, Central and South.

But sure, it's because we are starved for attention and want to be associated with a mongrel nation, believe what you will.

It doesn't. Brazil is also a federation on the american continent, but had the decency to name itself something.

>latin american calling US a mongrel nation
let me guess Fernandez de Jesus, you're part zambo, part mestizo, part criollo?

i always wondered when/why the Columbia concept died off

I am from Uruguay, the whitest nation in the Americas. And my last name is of Swiss origin.

>all this ass pain over something that’s been a thing for well over two centuries and is truly a nonissue
Yes feed us more tears, it sustains us.

How butt blasted are you eurocucks when you realize 2 continents are named after this country?

Manifest Destonia.

>United States of America
>Central African Republic
>South Africa
>Federated States of Micronesia

Why people do this?

Why not? What are you the person in charge of how countries name themselves?

La pais de los abominacciones absolutamentes...

New Israel.

Every single Latin american knows "American" means from the USA, you can sod off with that "language confusion" bs.

>mongrel nation
>coming from a latin american
Your average "white" person in Uruguay could not pass as White in the US or Europe bud

ITT

America is a continent but the name has become slang for the United States of America so that's the very closest you will get. If you want a better answer than America though, you should first realize that the US is a union and that the nameS of America are the names of the states that compose the USA

>Every single Latin american knows "American" means from the USA, you can sod off with that "language confusion" bs.
Nope, in Spanish, we don't say "americano", we say "estadounidense".

>Your average "white" person in Uruguay could not pass as White in the US or Europe bud
Pretty difficult considering Uruguay natives died before we were even a country. Every singe one of them was genocided by the Spaniards. Modern genetic testing shows no native admixture whatsoever in Uruguay's 88% white population.

So you are the mongrel in this debate.

AmeriKKKa

United States of Northern Mexico and Southern Canada

We should start a petition to rename it to "the Union of the States of America", with short name "the Union" and adjective "Unionist".

Thats a shitty sounding name
United states is crisp and clean

Get rid of "North America" and "South America". North America should be called America and South America should be called Columbia (with a U, to differentiate between it and the country whose capital is Bogota) and then educate people that America the country is not the same as America the continent as well as the difference between Columbia and Colombia.

Who were the natives of Uruguay?

They prefered being named after an Italian guy instead of being named after a different Italian guy

Probably due to neither Colombia nor British Columbia being in the US

United Statists?

>It's United States of America (arrogantly so)

Sure lined their pockets you can see the success and riches today. Gold coins spewing from every Mexicans pocket like drops of rain

having qt country waifus is sexist apparently
