This is not ideological or anything, just something I don't understand.
Why didn't England and France declare war on Soviets, they've also invaded Poland, Baltic states and attempted to invade Finland? Their expansion was clearly towards the West end they've formed Molotov Ribbentrop too. So why didn't they?
Here’s the simple answer: hitler broke treaties after warnings, Stalin did not.
Hitler broke Versailles, betrayed the Czechs after Munich, broke his nonaggression pact with Poland, etc.
Stalin merely signed one treaty with the Germans, which they then honored.
This meant that from a British perspective, the relatively isolationist (prewar) soviets were much much less of a threat than the Germans.
Aside from this, when Britain and France thought they’d have a short war against Germany, they Were planning in intervening after against Russia.
Cooper Reyes
They didn't want to anger Stalin, who had an a army that basically surpassed that of Hitler (as far as I'm aware of). They were pretty desperate to end the war asap, so they tried to suck Stalin's dick a little bit. This is one of the reasons they gave Eastern Europe away, they wanted to secure the safety of western Europe. I'll get a source soon
Jose Lewis
None of this post is accurate. The allies planned on bombing Baku while still at war with Germany, and only refused to declare against the soviets because Stalin was seen as a more rational actor and because they didn’t think they could fight both at once
But wouldn't it make more sense to start a power block with Germany and other Westerners to suppress the expansion of Soviets in the first place?
Joseph Rodriguez
How can you not understand? It's completely obvious. They didn't want to fight Russia and Germany at once, and Germany moved first and was more threatening. There.
Jason Collins
You’ve given away your bias.
It makes no sense to ally with a treaty breaker, because they’ll just fucking betray you (Barbarossa).
Hitler was seen as a rabid dog in international affairs, and his repeated deceptions were enough for the allies to very temporarily put aside their hatred of communism.
Landon Perez
Do you think uniting Hitler and Stalin against them is a good idea? Especially when you that they would eventually go to war if left alone? Better to end the war you already joined against Germany then assist Finland in containing soviet expansion afterwards, Remembering that the Soviets invaded Poland 14 days after you declared war on Germany.
Gavin Morales
Hitler invaded Poland first, and they then declared war on Germany. My guess would be they'd prefer finishing 1 war at a time, rather than give an incentive to the Germans and Russians to work together against them.
Aaron Parker
Russia had more soldiers, bigger industry and was expanding to West. Russia was more dangerous than Germany
Austin Long
After the war the first thing Churchill did was come up with a plan to attack the Soviets.
Oliver Murphy
Fuck off, you started this thread pretending to not be a naziboo, now you’re just stormposting when the reasons have been clearly explained to you
Adam Evans
Too bad Hitler had severe autism and joined up with the USSR to attack an anticommunist country protected by the British and French, destroying any possibility of that.
Dominic Edwards
The soviets weren't expanding before the war started. Germany was and had been continually antagonizing France and the UK.
Nicholas Martin
It wasn't expanding though. Germany had started a world war twenty years before and made no secret of their desire for a rematch.
Gavin Moore
I'm the last person to be a nazi, since frankly I'm a raging communist and Russia fanboy. It just doesn't make sense to me to attack the enemy of your enemy and then spend 45 years fighting that same enemy in proxy wars
Jaxon Nguyen
This thread is full of explanations that you dogmatically refuse to engage.
Michael Nelson
Soviets invaded balts and Poland, so they were expanding
Jason Ortiz
Soviets Meade’s those -after- Germany had started a world war, and the allies made plans to attack the soviets that only Getlan autism prevented them from executing.
But you’re not listening to the earlier posts, why would you listen to this one
Adam Jenkins
Soviets invaded*
Dylan Barnes
It’s idiotic tankies like you that got Stalin to trust hitler and not to prepare for the inevitable Teutonic betrayal
Carter Garcia
>Here’s the simple answer: hitler broke treaties after warnings, Stalin did not.
Yep that's right the communists were much more trustworthy then the germans. That's why Poland and Czechoslovakia were free democracies which stalin promised, or the liberation of the 20000 polish officers after they were in the katyn forrests .
The soviet communists were more trustworthy than the Nazi germans.
Carson Peterson
Is this bait or do you not know how dates work?
Robert Miller
why do people like this always forget the Russian Civil War? You know, where American, British and French troops literally tried to topple the Soviet regime? Stop fucking acting like "le allies were biased towards the Soviets" when they already tried to wipe out the Soviet government and Winston Churchill already had a plan to wage a war with the Soviet Union. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Unthinkable
Hunter Kelly
They literally couldn't. There was no way that war torn Britain and murrica would have been able to push an inch against the Soviets. Instead, they would have lost all gained territory and be left facing Soviet Russia on a war footing. Britain may be held but that's the best you can hope for.
Wyatt Cook
>Why didn't the allies declare war during WW2 based on something that happened after the war what the fuck You're actually mentally deficient.
Liam Cox
>Why didn't England and France declare war on Soviets, they've also invaded Poland, Baltic states and attempted to invade Finland? Their expansion was clearly towards the West end they've formed Molotov Ribbentrop too. So why didn't they?
Early on, Germany was the bigger threat and literally rolled right over France and pushed the Brits out of Europe. Come Barbarossa, the Soviets became the enemy of the enemy, so grudging cooperation became an option to get rid of the germans.
Towards the end of the war, Europe is pretty much flattened, the soviet army is now battle hardened, and the only 2 nations with an intact industrial base are the US, located an Ocean away, and the Soviets, who have an army right on the border right now.
Sure, you could declare a war right now. And god knows how long it would go on and how many more would die.
Or you sign a peace, go home, rebuild, and prep for the next war.
Parker Thompson
But Stalin literally accepted the peace with Finns in March 1940 because he was afraid of France and Britain intervening in the coming Spring if the war dragged on.
Jack Young
>Stalin did not. *promises free elections in eastern european countries*
Elijah Martinez
Britain had a perfectly intact industrial base, just not the manpower
Jacob Wilson
>Katynn >post war hmmmm...
Landon Wright
>Germany was and had been continually antagonizing France and the UK. How's that? Dumping Versailles was fully expected, and as the bongs had been busily gunning down pajeets and starving Saffers in concentration camps, what should they have to say about Eastern European colonialism?
