You aren't going to be able to press as much as you think you can. Start out easy and build up from there. Don't hurt yourself.

Don't go ham on the plates or you'll die
But if it's a smith machine then you'll be fine

Load up 1pl8

You'd be surprised how strong your chest is naturally.

Also don't use a spotter or else you'll look like a pussy... and use suicide grip.

Stop it
We can't all make it if he's dead

user you're an alright guy

don't do any of this

Roll of shame

Don't do this.

Also if your shoulders hurt lower the weight and correct your form. Don't injure yourself for pride like I did.

Im going to do one plate. do 2-3 sets then do curls.
I'm going first thing because the bench is taken almost immediately.
It has the lower clamps so I can drop it and not die, also roll of shame is an option.
I don't have a spotter.
My only gymbro is a sports teacher so he can only work out at night and I workout in the morning.
B-but lower clamps and roll and I live...
this. I have lifted before just not bench so I have some strength.

If barbell, make sure your arms are perpendicular to the floor at the bottom of the rep.
If dumbbell, start off light.
I can easily bench 2pl8s but I started with the 30lb dumbbells.

When I started benching I could only bench 50 pounds I know exactly what you're talking about

Hey if you got it down go for it
But the first time you bench perfect form is not an option because putting it to your chest makes it almost impossible to get it back up

This is a pretty nice thread.

Dont start with one plate dumbass, put some 10s or 25s on and see what happens then adjust accordingly

I'm a britbong.
our plate defaults are 10kg's cos of the metric system.
ty

no they arent
1 plate means one of the 20kg plates, man

t. also britbong

Why does it say 10 on the side then?
hmmmmmmmm

That's a plate, not a pl8™.
only the 20s are true pl8s™

There are lots of different sized plates.

At my gym there are:
>1.25kg
>2.5kg
>5kg
>10kg
>15kg
>20kg
>25kg
>50kg
plates, but the 'default' meaning of the word 'plate' in fitness slang is one of the 20kg plates.

So if I say "I can squat 3pl8", that means I can squat with 3 20kg plates on each side of the bar - it doesnt mean 3 2.5kg plates or anything.

Capiche?

Yes I realize there are different plates.
10kg is the most common at my gym.
>20kg is the universal
Source?

Its just slang, thats the commonly-agreed upon meaning.

I don't live in burgerland

The website is a .com, but people from the uk use it. If you follow the link you will see people talking about both UK and US measurements.

For example a user named Russing posted:
>in usa 45lb weight plates, in uk 20kg plates.

>Both countries use the term "i did 3 plates each side" as far as i am aware. In USA the weight plates are marginally heavier as 45lbs = 20.45kg as said above.

>bodybuilding.com is the universal source for everyone of all countries
fucking kill yourself.

I never said that. I just said some of the people who use it are british.

I don't like this thread anymore.
Can't we go back to trying to get OP to kill himself?

Shoulders back
Range of motion
SQUEEEEEEEEEZE

Don't bounce off your chest unless you plan on strength training.
If building muscle, make sure to feel that chest open and contract and make sure you arnt throwing the weights up and down but rather ease it up, hold, controlled down.

And don't fall the feet off the ground bromine.
