Hobbies aren't going to help you as much because most of their hobbies are pretty isolated and home-y, like reading. Your best bet is really just to meet them through friends or in class (if you're in college).

If I can give you one piece of advice though, don't sweat looking for the perfect girl too hard. If you're a good guy and you're not spending every night inside, it'll happen. It just takes time.
