Sweets

How the fuck do you guys stay away from sugar? I can workout every day, eat spinach, kale and chicken breast for breakfast lunch and dinner but if I don't get at least some sugar (popsicle, donuts, pie etc.) in my mouth I go fucking psycho. I used to be 50lbs heavier and although I stopped eating sweets as much as I used to I still need one thing a day (as of right now I'm at a popsicle a day)

I'm currently three and a half weeks into trying to break my sugar addiction and I still crave sweets daily.

Only source of carbs at the momentare nuts, carrots, and very occasionally brown rice. I'm starting to wonder if a cold turkey, full keto diet is necessary to actually abolish cravings because right now it's just a battle of willpower

Same with me, seems like the healthier I eat, the more I crave fatty/sweet foods. If I eat pizza I don't want ice cream after but if I eat a bland chicken salad I want to eat a whole tub. I crave something sweet after meals, which seems to be a normal human trait (which is why we have dessert?) Is it biological or a learned thing? people didn't always have access to sugar like we do. do you have to completely go cold turkey or can you have a sugary thing every now and then without getting the cravings back?

Why do you have to cut it out?

I'm cutting, but i treat myself to low calorie (80 kcal) ice cream every other day. Also, my 100 calorie (10g proton) protein bar is basically candy and i have one or two of those a day.

>How the fuck do you guys stay away from sugar?

By not consuming it.

Because the moment I have any sort of sugar I bloat and splurge
Obviously but I'm talking about the addiction. I used to starve myself but I went a tad psychotic when that happened so I try not to do that anymore

I don't really get addicted to stuff, sorry.

I can't speak for others but I () was a formerly obese dude and I managed to cut down into normal range by eating moderately. Took a break and maintained weight by eating whatever I wanted. Now I'm trying to cut to single digit bf and I found that anytime I ate sugar it would turn me into a ravenous fiend and I'd eat easily a thousand plus calories in a sitting without being sated. Often times for weeks after a single fuck up i would slip back into my old obese sugar consuming habits for days or weeks. It took several fuck ups on my pet until I noticed my relapse stories were analagous to those of hardcore drug addicts.

Im hoping now by breaking the addiction and resetting my insulin and leptin sensitivities I can maintain a healthier lifestyle for longer

It's reactive hypoglycemia secondary to insulin resistant. food bolus triggers an insulin response, but due to insulin resistance, the pancreas secrets more insulin to overcome it. it can't meter out the perfect amount so it tends to overshoot. excess insulin eventually drives blood glucose down too much, so you get the hypoglycemic symptoms: increased hunger even though you just ate plenty of food, fatigue, lightheadedness, etc.

How is honey as a sugar substitute? I've adding it to my oatmeal to sweeten it up cause I'm getting bored of the flavor.

>mfw I'm like you but with carbs
I just love cereal so much

It works but I end up using too much so it's a risk I don't take any more

you dont have to get rid of sugar, lol.

>Is it biological or a learned thing?

Desert isn't biological. If I remember correctly my parents imposed it on me and then threatened to take it away if I didn't behave.

I dont buy it.

makes it alot easier to avoid sweets when you have none in your house besides fruit.

and halo top ice cream of course

Same here, I've got no willpower when it comes to chocolate.
>tfw in Germany for several years
>access to high quality chocolate on demand
May my pancreas rest in hell.

I ate three small biscuits yesterday after like a month of no sugar

Just buy single servings of stuff. I have candy/snacks if I want to on days I'm not fasting.

Just get a ice cream cone, a cinnamon bun or one small Snickers if you're having cravings.

I just eat something like a granola bar with less sugar every now and then. On that one day a week I where I don't do anything, I might even eat some other sweets, but i'd just cut down on the other food.
I never buy chocolate bars or gummi bears or shit like that because fuck, I cannot control myself with those. Once I open them up, I eat them up immediately.

don't sweat it man. 1 cheat meal per week or even less won't do shit to your goals. you ain't competing for mr olympia, have fun and enjoy your journey.

people who quit that shit cold turkey and don't indulge themselves and are insanely strict about the shit they eat all the times are the first ones to fall.

I mean OP, eating a clean food 7 days a week with maybe 2 smalll choclate bars in between the week won't hurt you. You need a bit sugar after your training anyway

Former sugar/sweets addict here, it got a lot better when I started living alone a few years ago. When you buy everything yourself and monitor money more closely it's way easier to get over it. At first I did the same as you, I stopped buying chocolate/cookies etc and switched to ice pop because while being devoid of any nutrition it's at least a lot less sugar/calories. Then I reduced the amount from 2 popsicles a day to 1 to a couple per week and eventually I just stopped buying it. It took quite some time until I stopped craving sugar but you just have to power through that. Remember, if you make it everything will be better.

After a long cut I've got into a binge restrict cycle and I can't stop, it's been 2 months of this shit already. I'll eat clean then crave chocolate so bad I'll binge back up to maintenance.

How to stop? :(

Smaller deficit, if you cut at 500 below TDEE you will crave food so much you will eventually give in. If you eat 200 below you're a lot more likely to resist. Eat filling, caloric dilute food. Meaning vegetables usually, it's near impossible to overeat on steamed broccoli.

Just eat Some complex carbs instead you retard
This is Not fucking Rocket science

If I eat at such a tiny deficit, it'll take me forever to lose the remaining weight though, and I'll just prolong my cut.

200 is not a tiny deficit and it's healthier and more likely to work in the long term. What's better a longer cut or no cut at all? You said you already wasted 2 months like that, go change your approach if you can't resist your cravings.

So just eat fruit?

I guess you're right now that I think about all that binge/restrict wasted time.

Gotta be careful before i get an eating disorder. You think you're fine then you look at it objectively and realize you have a legit problem.

wtf even is that?

It's apple pie. The fuck?

Keto for a couple days til your sugar cravings disappear.

Failing that, simply cut out processed foods and sugar, eat more veg and deal with the cravings for a week or two with water and coconut oil.

It looks all dry and weird, it looks like hot chips shoved in a pie crust.
Also apple pie sucks.

this. Pineapple pie is better

The fuck?! It looks great, a nice and basic pie with lots of actual apple pieces, the right amount of cinnamon and no shitty gelatin, whipped cream or sugar bullshit. I'd eat the hell out of it.

Just keep sugar mostly out of your diet for a little while longer and you'll find it will get less appealing. Even milk tastes sweet to me now and can satisfy that craving.
A little bit is fine though. I put a small amount of maple syrup (the real stuff) in my morning espresso.

You reach a stage where when you get sugar cravings, it's just your body telling you it wants fuel.
If you can control yourself and eat something decent the cravings go away.
Of course you could be a weak willed pussy who's addicted to both the satisfaction and habit that sugar forms.

Eat close to your maintenance, otherwise you'll naturally crave whichever foods you've eaten in the past with high calories- whether that's processed carbs or high fat.

I used to eat shit and I'd get sugar cravings like fuck on a cut. Now I've been on keto I get butter cravings like fuck. The body prioritises high calorie foods during strong deficit it seems. Eat closer to maintenance.

>which seems to be a normal human trait (which is why we have dessert?)
Any country in the world with a healthy diet or poverty doesn't eat dessert, that's a western thing. Even in shitty dietary health countries like Turkey and Saudi they only introduced deserts in the last 80 years as the west got closer.

Not true, otherwise your craving would take longer to kick in (insulin profiles can last for hours in non diabetics) and diabetics would have no cravings/hunger at all. Also overshooting simply isn't a thing in non diabetics, but over-treatment or over-eating after feeling hungry absolutely is.

Important differentiation.

>How is sucrose and fructose as a sucrose replacement?
Exactly the same. Replace with erythritol or other sugarless sugar-alcohol if you're that addicted.

Stop buying chocolate.
Eat veg and drink water each time you crave then wait an hour.
Eat coconut oil with cocoa (sugarless chocolate) instead.
Eat closer to maintenance.
etc

Sounds like you're already prolonging your cut.

This. After you cut all the shit and processed carbs/foods out of your diet a piece of fruit or milk becomes sweet and more than enough to deal with the rare cravings you get.

Thanks guys
I did keto to drop 50lbs but I also starved myself and I wasn't a fan with how much meat I was eating since it was a tad much but it did work

like klokov said, you are what you eat but that doesn't mean you should stop eating what you like. moderation with such food is key and even more importantly it's all about how you feel. how you feel will steer your entire day and gym progress. you shouldn't feel like shit when you are on a diet. if you do you are on the wrong diet.

you want some chocolate or ice cream? go ahead, just don't eat it all the time or every day. you can easily have a few spoons of ice cream every day after workout with no downsides apart from nonexistent macronutrients.

This, a super strict diet can lead to you falling off the path of making it. It's all about maintenance and self control.

It's a good idea to avoid candy and desserts, but if you don't eat enough carbs, you will crave it. Keto doesn't make that go away.
Just eat some rice/corn/grains/potatoes a little bit every day, like a handful or two. Takes the worst cravings away and you can stay away from sweets much easier.
In my experience, no carbs = breaking you diet relatively soon.

So after a workout and I'm having hypoglycemic symptoms, am I suppose to ignore it and hope it passes?

I find that if you cook your food and spend time preparing it, you feel fuller after eating even if it's the same macro breakdown as food made by someone else/store bought. Don't know why, but ever since I started making my own food and actually cooking, my craving are down and i feel more satisfied.

>sugar addiction
How mentally weak are you

you're addicted to it. Stop eating refined sugar and in two weeks even a bowl of cereal is going to taste way too sweet, like candy

>I did keto to drop 50lbs but I also starved myself and I wasn't a fan with how much meat I was eating since it was a tad much but it did work

I doubt that was keto then. Keto is low in protein, especially for Veeky Forumsizens

Y'all need to cook more. Granted stevia isn't the greatest alternative but its better than straight sugar.

I made a bunch of keto recipe blueberry blondies the other day. They're fuckin' amazing. Solid amount of fat and protein, I cram it down before the gym and boom. Pure power.

well obviously you're doing fine, it's because you're eating like a normal person. just keep eating like a normal person...

This is exactly why I'm fasting. I couldn't stick to a normal diet for shit, but I consider myself obsessed with food in general. Physically I feel much better than the first 3 days, but I still keep watching some food porn just because I miss food. I try to break it by looking at swimsuits instead of food. Kinda works but there's more food porn out there than swimsuit porn.

Just to add, my goal is to just "reset" everything and ease back into a majority fresh diet. I'm not a sugar fiend my any means, so I think I can go a long time without touching the stuff when my fast is over.

Dude same. I can't eat normal, I always just want to stuff myself to oblivion, I've never even been fat or eaten too many sweets. I envy those who don't like eating a lot.

>I still keep watching some food porn
all that youtube recommends me is 10k calories challenges. i watch like 5 before bed.

If it helps, it helps I guess :/

I feel like I'm doing you a disservice by suggesting this, but I'm obsessed with AlmazanKitchen. Best food porn on the web by far.

Breh that's some high quality video. JESUS FUCK THE CHEESE

Oh man I need to join some high calorie burning sport so I can eat more.

Just that thumbnail makes me sick. Cancer is a sandwhich.

Take advantage of your sweet tooth and eat some healthy fruit

in*

can I just ask, if you're not fat what's the issue? If I were you I'd do intermittent fasting or something.

Don't you mean diabetes you faggot?

It was low carbs, though there were days where I only ate greens

Diabetes, cancer, stroke, CVD, fucking everything. Also drop the name, namefags and tripfags are just as cancerous as that food porn.

It's just cheese bread and bacon, all homemade, take it easy breh.

I'm trying to get very lean. I'm already insanely lean, but i have bad fat distribution where all of it is in one area, so the rest of my body looks lean while that one part looks chubby. It takes a ton of dieting to the point of insanity to remove that fat. I go crazy towards the end.

I already do intermittent fasting. Still hungry

Discover Erythritol comrade

How do you know so much about this?

Experience and results coupled with reading actual studies instead of blog posts.

You have beetus or you know people with it?

>implying studies aren't just paid blog posts

Overshooting is a thing even in healthy people though, if you eat garbage processed carbs and sugary shit.

Also, what studies do you read? I have prediabetes and I don't want to get full blown beetus.

the "sauce" in apple pie isn't gelatin you moron, its caramelized sugar mixed with the juices from the apples, the fact is these apples we not heated before being put in the pie therefor the pie will be shitty and dry. Learn to fucking cook.

Can anyone answer this user? I have the same feeling after cardio

There are recipes with gelatin you moron. There are fucking tons of different applie pies. Yes they were heated, if you search the pic it's called blue ribbon apple pie.

pbr also won a blue ribbon, doesn't mean it's a good beer

There's nothing wrong with eating sugar after a workout. In fact it has been shown to be benefitial towards recovery. Just don't eat too much.

Type 1, so both.

Examine puts out some easy to read stuff and otherwise just find meta analyses for areas you're interested in

If you have pre-diabetes your best approach is the same as anyones- good diet and exercise indefinitely. Also lots of sunshine, magnesium and other vitamins we're naturally deficient in.

You need to learn how study works in vitro of marketing

I just wrote a big blog post on this but aimed at diabetics. For you normies the basic principle is that anything above 80% of your VO2 max (so heavy sets or HIIT/intense interval training) puts your blood sugar up during working out, anything less than 80% vo2 max puts your blood sugar down over time.

So mix in intense sets if you're doing medium or low intensity shit. And/or just have a bite during/after a workout.

Go for fruits instead of eating fucking candies
