>be me >have a professor who was a bodybuilder >he says he's lifted weights for roughly the last 20 years, lifts to this day because it's fun etc etc >he's early 40s, probably started lifting as a teenager >i know about this, as we've spoken about weightlifting and shit >bought a lifting belt yesterday in forest green >really good looking belt, wanted to show him >i show him he says >"bro i wouldn't use that if i were you, you'll end up with weirdly developed core muscles" >and then goes on to tell me never to deadlift in barefeet, as it causes flat feet >then says creatine is bad for your liver
guys please tell me he's joking. He was a natty bodybuilder during university and i have a lot of respect for him, but I have the feeling he doesn't know what he's talking about for this.

Well, creatine usually is bad for your liver because it's usually cheap shit from China laced with actual creatine.

Me too until i saw a 666 in the file size. Every time i've considered getting drunk, or in this case jerking, ill notice a 666 out of the blue and decide not to. It might be autism but it keeps me in check

#1, who the fuck needs validation so badly they bring a lifting belt to their instructor like show-and-tell in kindergarten? OP, you literally gobble cocks.
#2, belts go in and out of style every so many years. There's no clear study-supported consensus on them and many heavy lifters never use them. "Weirdly developed core muscles" may be perfectly accurate depending on your personal perception of development.
#3, if you deadlift with poor form, then doing so without arch support will absolutely lead to foot problems such as flat feet. He noted your behavior and probably assumed you know jack shit about lifting and was trying to save you.
#4, your liver makes creatine and you get it from red meat. Long-term studies in mice have shown creatine supplementation can lead to the development of lesions on the liver and reduce the liver's ability to produce creatine on its own; no studies have confirmed this long-term in humans yet.
#5, many long-term lifters live by bro-science. It happens. In this case, his phrasing (or your recollection) may sound wonky but he's accurate-ish.

I feel like if you could see a picture of every poster giving you advice, you would never ask advice here again.
think about back in the day when he learned a lot of this information (early in his career so 20 years ago) The internet was not as prevalent so a lot of this type of information was picked up through word of mouth. This is true with a ton of bodybuilders from the past. They all have pieces of knowledge or advice who was given to them by someone who was swole, but probably had no real knowledge on the topic. Being big was enough to have people trust your word on the matter

We've learned a lot over the last 20 years. Broscience existed back in the day but it was a lot harder to disprove.
