Proof that Romans were not racist against black people

>Juba II was a Berber prince from Africa Proconsulare. He was the only child and heir of King Juba I of Numidia; his mother's identity is unknown. In 46 BC, his father was defeated by Julius Caesar (in Thapsus, North Africa). Numidia became a Roman Province.[1] His father had been an ally of the Roman General Pompey.

>Juba II was brought to Rome by Julius Caesar and he took part in Caesar’s triumphal procession. In Rome he learned Latin and Greek, became romanized and was granted Roman citizenship.[1] Through dedication to his studies, he is said to have become one of Rome's best educated citizens, and by age 20 he wrote one of his first works entitled Roman Archaeology.[1] He was raised by Julius Caesar and later by his great-nephew Octavian (future Emperor Caesar Augustus). While growing up, Juba II accompanied Octavian on military campaigns, gaining valuable experience as a leader. He fought alongside Octavian in the battle of Actium in 31 BC. They became longtime friends.

Numidians weren't black you imbecile.

Romans were not "racist" in the modern sense. It was more of a cultural thing (but identification as a pureblood Roman was also a thing - but a Thracian was just as excluded from this as an Arab).

But as says, Numidians weren't black, and blacks didn't really factor into Roman anything much.

Romans probably thought black people were cursed by gods.

Do you consider Algerian people to be black ? They are pretty much the same as anvient Numidians.

Why would romans be racists against black people when they're black themselves? I mean scipio AFRICANUS. its in the name

you're a fucking moron, everyone in africa was black (or as you racialists would say, 'negroid') until the white man arrived and started kidnapping people in the 1500s

modern north african citizens are not true africans, they are mixed europeans and arabs and are not the real descendants of carthage, numidia and egypt!

>t. black and proud and not ashamed to put others in their place

They can't be racist if they are black

oh it's baitposting

It's true, racism as we know it today is a relatively new phenomenon, it originated out of the enlightenment which led to nationalism post-reformation.

Before that in the middle ages the primary motivation for discrimination was religious where you had the inquisition and heratics being put to death on the daily, as well as the crusades and jihads.

Rome was truely a universal empire, outside of the Roman Frontier and before the establishment of Rome there was rampant tribalism but during the periods of the Roman Empire, and the byzantine empire in the east, racism was a non issue.

It only became an issue when the Holy wars began and christendom realized that it's people looked different from the jihadists. Thus establishing a "white" identity that was more encompassing then the tribalism of the germania and Gothic tribes that vandalized the western Roman Empire.

The middle east still has this tribalism and they don't have a broad conception of racism.

You see this with the marked differences between the Arabs and the kurds and the Hebrews and the Aryans. It is much more convoluted and specific.

Also, regarding your specific example. The Berbers were not "dark skinned" or "black" especially during the Roman times (pic related is a Berner king during 2nd century) although there is evidence of later contact with the south Sudanese people's later under the Arabs and during the Barbary slave trade, the racial profile remains to this day, Caucasoid.

i think the fact that septimius severus became emperor says as much. he was 1/2 berber. he was said to have spoken with a carthaginian accent (he'd "swish" his S's... pronounce his name like "shemtimius sheverus")

2nd bc, also when I'm talking about mideast people i should note I'm referring to modern, but it's kind of irrelevant because the tribal identities have persisted since the dawn of civilization in the at region with the only difference being the prominence of different tribes at different times.

berbers are caucasoid. they pretty similar to people on the north of the mediterranean.
look at phoenicians, tunisians, algerians, moroccans.

And they would have been more mediterranean looking before they had arab admixture.

Its true user, anyone born in Africa is black.
I don't even know why people in other countries cared about apartheid, bunch of blacks being dicks to each other or something, like we care about some tribal african pettiness.

>he'd "swish" his S's... pronounce his name like "shemtimius sheverus"

Kawaii

>Classical Antiquity
>One of the most interesting eras in history (imo)
>Huge empires and cultures clash
>Birth of Western philosophy
>Great Generals and Emperors striving to build a legacy that will stand the test of time
>Monuments build that still baffle people to this day
>Foundations were built that shaped the modern world

OP: "Muh racism, whys peoples nowedayz raczist and back then they waznt racsizt!"

Clearly asking the interesting questions...

^^^ this there is no debate they were Caucasoid. They likely had darker skin then say Italians or Germans (duh) but they defiantly were not at any point in history negros. As far as I know there is no evidence of Roman's coming into contact with negros.

Or more correctly, "a negroid people"

>Proof that Romans were not racist against brown Caucasian's

FTFY

Correction, now that I think about it there is a likely hood that the Roman's came into contact with etheopian Jews or Somalian who were negroid.

There is certainly references to darker skinned people but I'm not sure if these were actual negroid or just dark skinned Caucasoids.

It was the negroid admixture that made them darker. The average maghrebi is 15% negroid.

the fact that tribalism existed whereby people would feel mistrustful of people who were out-group from them merely by tribe shows that people of that time would also feel mistrustful of those who were out-group from them by race , but back then travelling to and living on different continents from where you were born was rare enough that people did not usually come across totally different races.
That doesn't mean that the behaviour would not have expressed itself when it did happen. Consider roma gypsies in medieval europe. in general if you were a totally different race from the country you found yourself in in ancient times you'd either be a slave who was someone's property or you would probably know to stay exclusively in ports or trading /caravan cities where other people who didn't belong would be

Masinissa was Juba II's ancestor

all genetic evidence says you're wrong.

the only black north african people are tuaregs.

both arabs and amazigh people are light skinned, the amazigh were there before the arabs expanded there in the 8th century. north africans have been caucasoid and light skinned since the time of carthage and the phoenicians.

How could Romans be racist against blacks, when one of their emperors was black?

Unlike Abrahamic peoples the Romans valued reason.

Then you've never used google

Do you have anything that backs that up regarding the "rise of racism" that weren't present in asia?

Caesar had jungle fever

>Eunoë, who was descended from Moors, was the wife of Bogudes, King of Mauretania, and a mistress of Julius Caesar, according to Suetonius.
