Any kind of spirituality is valid as long as it gives the individual a higher purpose to aspire to but the problem with most neopagans is that they just wear it as a fashion statement. There's nothing to their belief to incorporate into their lives and transcend.

I mean, I don't really have any problem with the religion per say, but it doesn't seem like there's any personal progression through it. Christianity and Buddhism want you to cultivate a more meaningful and helpful existence, but not paganism.

That's why I like Donovan and Waggener's paganism. They don't simply believe that the Germanic gods existed, they see the morals that the myths told as an inspiration to develop themselves.

Most people wear their religion as a fashion statement or identity label. This is not exclusive to smaller religions, only more visible in them.

Since we're talking about Jack Donovan, I'd like to point out that his group are explicitly about meaningful existence. Whether you agree with their definitions and methods is a separate issue, but it is what they publicly state they are after in their many, many writings.

I pirated it because I sort of doubted it would be worth the read. I blazed right through it and it really resonated with me though. I definitely recommend it as a read for all men, I think there's some stuff that could be debated but the message overall is good.
