How to induce sleep?

I've been struggling with falling asleep for a long time now but since I came out of NEET status there is time schedules I need to do and not being able to fall asleep when I want to is causing me problems.

Unless I've stayed up all night, I won't fall asleep as soon as I hit the bed but weirdly if I'm at my parents house and feel tired I start to fall asleep, perhaps this is a psychological issue? I've been in my rented place for over a year so I thought I'd be used to it by now but not sure, it's worth considering if it is this but it could be a coincidence since I only see them after work and gym.

So far I've tried limiting caffeine time and consumption wise, sticking to a set bed time schedule and making sure I'm not on my computer an hour before bed but nothing seems to work.

For me, I count backwards from 100 reducing counting every time I exhale works for me. Also the environment helps, quiet, cool and dark.

Nyquil and other sleep aids usually work pretty good.

Watch asmr massage videos. That helped me so much. Other than that you can take benadryl which is otc at most convenient stores. Listen to a few love study/relax channels on YouTube and try to be calm. You can build this behavior over time. Even when your brain is done growing, you grow 700 new neurons a day which is enough to slowly sway behavior.

Get a good book and read. Don't read from a screen, no phones or tablets, those fuck up your eyes, only actual books. Make some brain gains on the process.

Melatonin if this doesn't work get prescription drugs.

OP keep in mind, Benadryl is incredibly habit forming, Ativan is nigh impossible to get a script for because it's addictive and abusable.
If I had to reccomend a sleep aid drug it would be pot. Only before bed so you don't become a degenerate stoner, but even then, being able to get to sleep naturally is preferable. Stay out of your room all day, only use your bed for sleep or sex. Go to bed at the same time every night, wake up at the same time every morning. There will be a lot of nights spent lying awake at first, but eventually your body WILL fall into a rhythm, and sleep will come.

Bro I just fixed my own sleep problems and I'll share what I learned with you.

Don't eat anything for hours before you want to fall asleep don't drink anything to hours before you fall asleep take 300 mg of magnesium Glisan eight with your last cup of water at night, it helps calm the brain. Also 24 g of hydrolyzed gelatin, that also helps calm the brain it really works for me.

The most important thing to do is go to sleep and wake up at the same time every night no exceptions. If you truly want to fix your sleep, this is what you have to do. I did not say this will be easy, but I did say it will work.

Also turn off all electronics one hour before bed all this blue light is really killing us with our sleep gains.

If you really want to fix your sleep then, during this transition. We are setting your good habits, no caffeine at all. Why? It is a stimulant and it will get you hyper. Let your body get set into its own habits of working itself up in the morning and winding down at night, thrown in caffeine for whatever reason is not going to help you.

I don't know what your work schedule is like, but if possible I strongly suggest to go to sleep with the sun and wake up with the sun. Because the sun hits your skin and then your skin will produce its own vitamin D, this is part of how the body knows it's daytime and it's time to wake up.

I take a benedryl and melatonin and it puts me right out. Make sure you have enough time for a full night's sleep or morning is groggy and rough

Doing this every morning will really help kickstart your body into starting a new and improved sleep schedule.

2. melatonin 30-60 minutes beforehand for a natural assist
3. clear as many thoughts out of your head as you can

Nah man, I'm all for smoking a fatty J every once in a while, but I've been smoking 3 hours before bed every night for around 4 years, I quit recently after hearing it effects gains because it kills your REM sleep and I feel so much better that it makes me cringe how much time ive wasted. Also once you start using it you cant get to sleep without it, I've laid in bed for hours without even feeling groggy

Get a bedtime and no napping during the day.
Make sure your sleeping environment is as dark and quiet as possible. If you live in a noisy environment consider using white noise to drown out other sounds.
Nothing to drink at least an hour before sleep. Try not to go to bed on an empty stomach.

Have you tried cutting off all liquids two hours before you want to fall asleep? If not give that a try that's probably what is going on with you

Look up the FILD method of lucid dreaming. It never helped me lucid dream but it certainly helps me fall asleep.

Used to have problems falling asleep due to shift work messing with my body clock.

Honestly it received very little attention in my human/animal physiology lectures so its role may have been discovered so recently that the books/professors haven't caught up yet or it's role has been overstated and hyped by advertising trying to get people to buy the pills. I've tried this for a few hours since it was first suggested, still awake almost 5am now fml
I'll consider sleep aids, I'll ask my doctor when the doctors open.

I prefer to sleep naturally, I just need some help in this case. I always stay out of my room, there is no electronics in here at all apart from my fan. I go to bed at the exact time however when I fall asleep is where the issue is, I can lay in the same position for an hour or so (yes I've timed this) and still have not fallen asleep despite doing work and gym, I should be knackered but I'm not.
Already jerk off before bed, no effect that lasts long.
The only thing I do is drink water before bed but this magnesium could be a problem, I certainly lack certain minerals and judging from my research this could be the case so I'll mention this to my doctor and see what he says. Trust me I've been trying for a long time now, it's gotten worse because I fell ill and that illness forced me to stay up even longer so now I'm fighting to fix all of this that has been made worse. The one thing I haven't done is falling asleep when the sun is still in the sky, I'll give that a go if that'll help.

Melatonin saved my life. It works incredibly well for me, placebo or not.

Try 4-7-8 breathing. Basically you inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7 seconds, exhale for 8 seconds and repeat. It knocks me straight out, I usually have little memory of how many I did when I wake up. Also I hear that magnesium can help with sleep, I'll try that soon when I get ZMA.

have these problems alot: don't have a clock you can see, it is not what time you go to bed but when you get up so force yourself to wake up early at the same time every day no matter how much sleep you get, also i find reading a book that i enjoy when in bed helps me get to that initial drifting off stage.
I also noticed that although it is often earlier than you want to go to bed there is a point every evening when you start to feel dozy: always catch the doze and go to bed then and apply that logic to reading the book also as it may give you a second chance

My room is bare with a fan and mirror wardrobe, that is it. I have done this as well, sort of have to since I do need to keep to my timetable. The only thing I haven't done here is read a book so I'll give that a go, maybe something on game development since that is what I want to do. I don't get these dozy moments, the only time when I do is when I've already been forced up all night due to being unable to sleep and during the mid day is when I will be dozy so I think in this case it's more to do with tiring out my brain so books should help me in this regard, I'll see if there is any results.

I prefer SunsetScreen because it allows setting the timing whenever you want instead based on the movements of the Sun. I haven't checked in a while but does f.lux still only allow setting the timing based on your chosen location?
